We’re a team of friends bound together by a mission to preserve our planet for future generations through innovative energy solutions and modern infrastructure. Intersect develops, constructs, and operates the most ambitious power and data center infrastructure in the country by co-locating industrial demand with dedicated gas and renewable power generation.
Intersect was acquired by Google in March 2026 and operates as an independent subsidiary. We are developing and constructing multiple gigawatts of energy and data center projects in the U.S., enabling more data center and generation capacity to come online faster. We’re on an aggressive growth trajectory and looking for people hungry to tackle the largest energy challenges on the planet.
Location & Team Gatherings
Intersect has been a fully flexible workplace since its founding in 2016. We’ve been very intentional about the way we do things. We are not work-from-home, hybrid, or in-office - we are any and all of those options! Deepening social connections and offering shared experiences is a cornerstone of the way we work. We connect as a team at our Team Week experiences four times a year and at our recently established Hub locations - SF Bay Area, NYC Metro Area, NY; Denver, CO; Austin, TX; Calgary, AB; and Toronto, ON.
We are currently looking for candidates located within 60 miles of any of the listed hubs to foster more in-person connections while maintaining our flexible remote culture.
About This Role
As part of Intersect’s Engineering team, you’ll lead the design, coordination, and technical oversight of high-voltage (HV) and medium-voltage (MV) systems across solar, wind, and battery storage projects. You’ll drive utility interconnection, optimize substation and transmission designs, and support projects from early development through financing, construction, and commissioning. Beyond project delivery, you’ll also provide ongoing technical support to Operations, ensuring assets perform reliably throughout their lifecycle. This is a highly cross-functional role, requiring close collaboration with Development, Permitting, Construction, Finance, Operations, and external EPCs, utilities, and consultants.
Team Overview
The Engineering team ensures Intersect’s energy projects are technically sound, cost-optimized, and built for long-term reliability. We develop standards, review designs, and coordinate across functions to bring complex clean energy facilities online at scale. By bridging technical expertise with project execution, we help Intersect accelerate deployment while meeting the highest safety, quality, and performance standards. Joining this team means shaping the backbone of our power infrastructure and driving the interconnection of next-generation energy projects.
What You’ll Do
Lead HV & MV Design
Develop and review preliminary HV transmission and substation designs, as well as MV distribution designs and single-line diagrams
Collaborate with EPCs, engineers of record, and external consultants to optimize facility design and execution
Maintain and improve internal design tools for engineering analysis and calculation
Drive Utility Interconnection
Participate in recurring meetings with utilities to advance interconnection discussions from development through commissioning
Support preparation and review of interconnection applications and dynamic models to ensure accuracy and compliance
Serve as a technical lead for Independent Engineer (IE) diligence and project financing reviews
Build Standards & Technical Excellence
Develop and maintain technical specifications, design criteria, standards, and EPC technical exhibits
Review vendor specifications, testing protocols, and commercial agreements to ensure alignment with project requirements and cost optimization
Support EPC RFPs to ensure technical requirements are clearly defined and competitive
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work with Development, Land, Permitting, Construction, and Operations teams to ensure seamless project delivery
Resolve regulatory, permitting, and technical challenges with a focus on cost, schedule, and quality
Champion high standards of safety, environmental stewardship, and constructability across all engineering activities
What You’ll Bring
8-10 years total, including >=4 years in clean energy project development (interconnection, owner’s engineering/IE oversight, EPC management, commercial negotiations) and >=4 years leading HV substation/collector design (345-500 kV) at a developer, IE/OE, or EPC, delivered ≥3 utility-scale projects through energization; led cross-functional teams and external consultants/contractors.
Strong understanding of HV transmission, substation equipment, MV distribution, metering, relaying, and SCADA/plant controllers
Technical expertise in power system design, optimization, and studies
Experience managing interconnection study processes in ERCOT and CAISO, with the ability to review and challenge study results
Advanced knowledge of steady-state modeling tools such as ETAP, SKP, or DigSILENT
Hands-on experience collaborating with EPCs and utilities during design and construction phases
Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to drive multiple projects in parallel
Solid Excel skills and familiarity with system design trade-offs, cost drivers, and construction challenges
Experience creating specifications and designs for HV transmission and substation equipment, or managing contracting/construction of HV facilities
Successfully advanced 5+ projects through CAISO, ERCOT, or SPP interconnection processes, ideally across multiple markets and through implementation (pre-EPC through COD)
Proven ability to lead preparation and review of interconnection applications and dynamic models for utility-scale projects
