JOB TITLE: Junior Grant Accountant
EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Full-Time
REPORTS TO: Senior Grant Manager
LOCATION: Downtown Brooklyn. Hybrid-3 days in office.
SALARY: $75,000-$80,000/year

JOB SUMMARY:
The Junior Grant Accountant provides organization-wide support for the Arab American Family Support Center’s grants & revenue contracts portfolio, including financial reporting, vouchering, budgeting, variance reports and audit activities. The Junior Grant Accountant will liaise closely with internal staff as well as work with external funders. Critical to success in the role, the Junior Grant Accountant must effectively balance compliance requirements and program needs.
A successful Junior Grant Accountant must be able to learn new systems, analyze general ledger reports, communicate effectively with individuals at all levels of financial literacy, and manage multiple priorities comfortably. A commitment to immigrant, refugee, and low-income communities is essential for this role.


PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities:

  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of all grant-related financial transactions.
  • Monitor grant expenditures to ensure alignment with approved budgets, funding agreements, and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare and post journal entries; analyze general ledger activity.
  • Review accounts for payable vouchers for assigned grant-funded programs.
  • Collaborate with Development team and program staff to resolve budgeting, reporting, and compliance issues.
  • Prepare grant budgets in collaboration with program managers.
  • Prepare accurate and timely financial reports for grantors in accordance with funding requirements.
  • Prepare and submit budgets, invoices, schedules, and workpapers in accordance with funder guidelines and deadlines.
  • Analyze grant financial data to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Assist with routine reconciliations and roll forward schedules for grant expenditures, receivables, cash activity.
  • Enter, classify, and summarize financial data in spreadsheets, trackers, and grant-management tools, with work subject to review.
  • Support the Grants Accountants with documentation requests and schedules for month-end and year-end close, audits, funder monitoring, and grant closeouts.
  • Monitor assigned deadlines, communicate status updates to the Grants Accountants, and escalate delays or unresolved issues promptly.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
BACKGROUND AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • At least two (2) years of accounting experience, with a strong focus on grants management.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • Prior fiscal experience with NYC, NYS, federal, and private grants and contracts.
  • Thorough knowledge of GAAP and grant accounting principles.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word, accounting systems, and standard workplace software.
  • Sage Intacct experience highly desirable.

  • Excellent organizational, time-management, follow-up, and administrative skills with attention to detail.
