BASIC FUNCTION:

ConnectALL seeks a full-time Managing Director. Reporting to the Senior Vice President, the Managing Director will coordinate strategic planning, drive key initiatives, and support high level relationships with external stakeholders. The Managing Director will ensure ConnectALL anticipates challenges and acts on opportunities. The Managing Director will work with the Senior Vice President to respond to the dynamic requests from state government executives and the dynamic conditions in the sectors in which ConnectALL operates. 


WORK PERFORMED:

  • Support the Senior Vice President in the direction of long-term strategy for ConnectALL.
  • Work with the Vice President for Program and Operations to monitor key areas of ConnectALL performance and anticipate future challenges.
  • Manage startup of key initiatives, develop resource and staffing plans, oversee implementation, and hand off to directors or managers as appropriate.
  • Advise the Senior Vice President on engagement with key stakeholders and stand in for the Senior Vice President as needed; Brief elected officials and other key stakeholders on ConnectALL programs.
  • Help the Senior Vice President and Senior ConnectALL staff respond to time sensitive, complex requests.
  • Ability to travel in support of ConnectALL projects and stakeholder engagement events.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education Level Required: Bachelor’s degree (MPP or MPA can replace years of work experience).

 

Relevant Experience required: A minimum of five (5) years of experience required with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in one or more of the following fields: Government, consulting within the government sector, economic development, public policy, government affairs, organizational or campaign strategy, or related business or not-for-profit areas. The ideal candidate will have a background in project management, business development, and/or strategic planning, you should have successful work examples of entering complex situations and providing immediate organization and direction. Experience in government with specific knowledge of New York State government and be up to speed with federal and state broadband funding programs. The candidate should have experience and comfort in dealing with government officials, private companies, and community leaders from across New York.

 

Knowledge Required: Deep understanding of and experience with government and policy operations in New York at the State, regional, and local levels. Expert knowledge of the broadband sector, specifically in New York. Experience leading complex projects and collaborating across multiple teams or organizations. Experience supervising staff, leading teams, and contributing to a growth mindset culture. Experience strategically engaging with diverse stakeholders and negotiating complex political relationships with grace and diplomacy. Keen sense of organizational strategy and ability to develop and assess new ideas. Organized and detail-oriented, able to juggle multiple types of work simultaneously and quickly switch contexts. Excellent communication and public presentation skills. Demonstrated interest in and passion for broadband infrastructure and digital equity, adoption, and literacy programs. A commitment to closing the digital divide in New York and ensuring that solutions pursued by ConnectALL are equitable and just.

ALTERNATE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR INTERNAL CANDIDATES: A minimum of 5 years of satisfactory service in another (relevant) position with Empire State Development. Up to 2 years of accredited post-secondary education, or service in the U.S. military may be substituted for service at ESD.

 


APPROXIMATE HIRING SALARY: $122,016 to $133,000 (w/ comprehensive benefits package)
