We’re seeking a future team member for the role of Managing Director, Engineering Group leader for our Payments Platform Engineering. This role is located in New York, New York.

In this role, you’ll make an impact in the following ways: 

  • Define and execute the engineering strategy for BNY's mission-critical payments platform, overseeing architecture, modernization, delivery, resiliency, and production stability across wires, ACH, Zelle, instant payments, checks, lockbox, and related payment services. 

  • Lead the transformation of core payment capabilities into a scalable, secure, highly available, low-latency, and observable platform aligned with BNY's engineering, architecture, and operational resilience standards. 

  • Provide hands-on technical leadership across distributed systems, high-volume transaction processing, APIs, event-driven architectures, data platforms, performance optimization, and production readiness. 

  • Partner with product, operations, risk, compliance, cybersecurity, sanctions, funds control, and business leaders to deliver secure, resilient, and compliant end-to-end payment solutions. 

  • Drive adoption of AI-enabled engineering practices and intelligent automation to improve software delivery, code quality, operational efficiency, resiliency, and control effectiveness. 

  • Lead and develop large global engineering organizations, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, engineering excellence, inclusion, and continuous improvement. 

  • Engage senior executives, governance bodies, auditors, and regulators to align modernization priorities, technology investments, operational resilience, risk management, and platform performance. 

  • Establish and track measurable outcomes across platform availability, resiliency, throughput, latency, modernization progress, technical debt reduction, incident reduction, AI adoption, and operational efficiency.

     

To be successful in this role, we’re seeking the following: 

  • 15+ years of technology leadership experience, including leadership of large-scale engineering organizations within financial services, payments, fintech, or other highly regulated environments. 

  • Deep expertise in payments technology, transaction processing, distributed systems, application modernization, resiliency engineering, API ecosystems, and highly available production platforms. Cloud and hybrid architecture experience preferred. 

  • Strong technical credibility with the ability to evaluate architecture, guide engineering decisions, coach senior leaders, and drive scalable, secure, and resilient system design. 

  • Proven success modernizing business-critical platforms with measurable improvements in resiliency, performance, operational efficiency, controls, and delivery outcomes. 

  • Experience working closely with audit, risk, compliance, cybersecurity, and regulatory stakeholders on technology controls, resilience, and transformation initiatives. 

  • Exceptional executive communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to translate complex technical topics into business and risk outcomes. 

  • Demonstrated success building global teams, developing engineering talent, and advancing engineering excellence and operational discipline. 

  • Experience leveraging AI-enabled development practices, intelligent automation, or production AI solutions to improve engineering productivity and platform outcomes. 

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Expertise in payment domains such as wires, ACH, real-time payments, Zelle, checks, lockbox, sanctions screening, or payment gateways.
  • Experience with operational resilience, disaster recovery, cyber recovery, and critical incident management.
  • Demonstrated success leading enterprise-scale modernization and engineering transformation initiatives.

    Base salary offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Base salary is only part of the total rewards package, which may include eligibility for an annual discretionary incentive award. Subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable plans then in effect, eligible employees may enroll in a 401(k) plan as well as participate in Company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance plans for the employee and the employee’s eligible dependents.
