Position Purpose:
Benchmark Education Company is seeking a detail-oriented Copy Editor to join our marketing team. In this role, you'll ensure that all promotional and marketing materials—both print and digital—reflect our commitment to educational excellence and our mission to inspire lifelong learning through literacy, language, and knowledge development. You'll be the guardian of clarity, consistency, and quality across all customer-facing marketing communications.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Edit and proofread marketing materials including catalogs, sales sheets, email campaigns, web copy, social media content, advertisements, and promotional collateral
  • Ensure accuracy, clarity, consistency, and adherence to brand voice and style guidelines
  • Verify product information, pricing, ISBNs, and educational specifications
  • Review materials for grammatical correctness, punctuation, and spelling
  • Maintain and apply company style guide and editorial standards across all marketing channels
  • Flag inconsistencies in messaging, tone, or brand representation
  • Conduct fact-checking for educational claims and product descriptions
  • Collaborate with design team to ensure copy fits layouts without compromising message clarity
  • Partner with marketing, sales, product development, and editorial teams to maintain messaging alignment
  • Provide constructive feedback to content creators and copywriters
  • Meet tight deadlines while managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions and contribute to content strategy discussions
  • Adapt editing approach for various formats (print catalogs, websites, emails, social media, video scripts)
  • Review digital assets for accessibility and user experience

Job Requirements/Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 3 – 5 years of experience as a copy editor, preferably in publishing, education or marketing.  
  • Exceptional command of grammar, punctuation, and AP/Chicago Manual of Style
  • Strong attention to detail with ability to spot inconsistencies and errors
  • Understanding of educational publishing terminology and K-12 market preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with project management tools
  • Basic understanding of CMS platforms and HTML helpful
  • Excellent time management and ability to prioritize competing deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Rate Range: $25-$30/hour

*The hourly range represents the low and high end of the expected rate range for the position. The base rate offered may depend on a variety of factors such as geographic location, experience, education, and skill level.
