Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) is a multi-disciplinary arts center located in Brooklyn, New York. BAM is seeking a Marketing Manager!  In collaboration with the Director of Marketing and other marketing and communications team members, the Marketing Manager develops and executes strategic, audience-centered marketing campaigns that drive awareness, attendance, engagement and revenue for BAM’s performing arts programming and institutional initiatives. This role helps strengthen BAM’s visibility and connection with audiences throughout Brooklyn and beyond.

 

The ideal candidate will collaborate with the Director of Marketing, creating and implementing effective marketing plans for assigned mainstage performance programs and other institutional initiatives that assist in achieving the institution’s brand strategy, attendance, audience development, audience engagement, and revenue goals. Working with advertising agencies, media vendors and partners, other key marketing and communications staff, and community partners, oversees the timely and successful execution of assigned campaigns.

 

In addition, collaborates with marketing and communications staff and key staff from other departments to ensure our marketing activities are aligned with and complement other institutional initiatives. Serves as a strong steward of the BAM brand by working with the Creative Services team to ensure all marketing campaign materials reflect BAM’s brand voice, visual identity, and pursue and implement efficiencies in all areas of marketing through new approaches.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • With the Director of Marketing, develops and executes integrated marketing strategy for assigned programs and institutional initiatives from planning through execution and evaluation.
  • In partnership with the Director of Marketing, develops marketing plans and creative strategy; assists in developing creative briefs that establish campaign objectives/goals, target audiences, positioning, and key messaging.
  • With the Director of Marketing, develops media plans and budget allocations for each assigned program. Manages program marketing budgets and is accountable to the Director of Marketing and the Director of Marketing Operations for ongoing budget management, ensuring resources are spent wisely to generate the maximum ROI.
  • Working with the Director of Marketing manages the development of key art and campaign assets for all related advertising (digital, print, outdoor, broadcast) and public¬-facing communications (web, email, direct mail, flyers, onsite posters, signage, etc.)
  • Coordinates the timely collection and distribution of campaign assets and materials across all channels. Ensures all campaign materials are trafficked to appropriate channels in a timely fashion.
  • Measures and analyzes effectiveness/ROI of marketing efforts in partnership with the Associate Director of Relationship Marketing & Analytics, Director of Marketing Operations, and Director of Marketing. Uses data to support strategy and tactical choices, and to make appropriate recommendations for campaign adjustments or pivots.
  • Supports the Associate Director of Relationship Marketing & Analytics to develop and implement direct marketing campaigns (email and direct mail) for assigned programs.
  • Works collaboratively with the Social Media Manager to develop program-related social and content strategy.
  • Stays informed of developments in the fields of marketing, audience development, digital engagement, and performing arts, and uses this information to help BAM operate with initiative and innovation.
  • Represents BAM marketing with internal and external partners.
  • Is committed to building an equitable and inclusive community within BAM and as a good ambassador in the community.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, business, arts administration, or a related field preferred; equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience will be considered.
  • 3–5 years of progressive marketing experience, preferably in the performing arts, entertainment, or cultural industries.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing integrated marketing campaigns across multiple channels, including email, digital advertising, social media, direct mail, partnerships, and other promotional channels to achieve institutional goals.
  • Experience using sales and audience data to evaluate campaign performance and make marketing recommendations.
  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously, including campaign schedules, budgets, creative deliverables, approvals, and deadlines.
  • Experience collaborating with creative teams, digital/media agencies, external partners, and internal stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with CRM, ticketing, email marketing, analytics, and project-management platforms; experience with Tessitura and other arts/cultural marketing systems is a plus.
  • Experience in the performing arts or cultural sector preferred but not required; demonstrated interest in contemporary performing arts and BAM's programming expected.
  • Comfortable working with DEI concepts, programs, and initiatives
  • Knowledge and experience with MS Office Suite and Google Suite
  • Strong strategic thinking and judgment, with the ability to understand broader marketing objectives and translate them into effective campaign plans.
  • Audience-oriented, creative, and curious, with an interest in understanding different audience segments and identifying innovative and effective ways to reach and engage them. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate effectively with colleagues across departments and at all levels.
  • Strong collaborative and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build productive working relationships across multiple departments.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities simultaneously.

Compensation: The salary for this position is $72,800K. This role is represented by Local 2110 and will be paid in accordance with the BAM/UAW Local 2110 Collective Bargaining Agreement. This position is full-time, non-exempt, and eligible for benefits. BAM provides a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance, retirement plan opportunities including both 401(k) and pension plans, as well as BAM-related benefits including access to BAM's fantastic programming. 

 

Working conditions: Administrative Work (Category 1):

  • The employee sits most of the time yet may occasionally move around the office, uses fingers and hands, engages in frequent oral communication, and has close visual acuity to perform activities such as viewing a computer and preparation of data and figures.
  • Location: The position will primarily be onsite (3+ days), with occasional flexibility to work remotely as the workload allows.
  • Willing to work evening and/or weekend hours
