The Role:

The Motion Design Director will lead the design, creative development and execution of motion design across the Blackstone brand. You’ll work closely with internal teams and video partners to develop visually compelling motion graphics, transitions, and animations that align with our brand’s messaging, values, and objectives. Your expertise will help transform complex financial concepts into visually digestible and engaging experiences for our audience.

This is a manager/individual contributor role, where you’ll lead the creative direction while also being hands-on in executing motion design at a fast pace. You’ll be responsible for leading the creation and maintenance of on-screen animations, transition styles, and other dynamic motion design elements that ensure a seamless and intuitive user experience. We're looking for a candidate with an abundance of positivity, empathy, and kindness, who is effective in both creative leadership and collaborative efforts.

Responsibilities:

  • Set and drive the creative vision for Blackstone’s motion design system

  • Work closely with video producers, editors, designers, marketers, and stakeholders to ensure motion graphics are in line with brand guidelines and messaging

  • Lead the conceptualization and execution of animation styles, transitions, infographics, and other dynamic visual elements that simplify and communicate financial concepts in a compelling way

  • Ensure that all motion design adheres to brand guidelines, maintaining a consistent and high-quality visual identity across assets

  • Balance visionary leadership with hands-on execution, bringing world-class experiences to life within established design principles

  • Provide creative direction throughout the video production process, from storyboarding to final edits, ensuring smooth integration of motion graphics

  • Stay current on the latest trends in motion design, animation techniques, and relevant technology to evolve the visual direction and enhance the effectiveness of video content

  • Guide and mentor designers, providing constructive feedback, fostering creative growth, and maintaining a collaborative team culture

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience (8+ years) as a Motion Designer, Motion Director, or similar role

  • Experience guiding and motivating teams of motion designers, developing projects from conception to handoff

  • In-depth knowledge of all steps required in the creative process, including effectively and efficiently staffing projects, providing communication and creative direction, and giving timely and helpful feedback to improve creative solutions

  • Strong design skills with high attention to detail and the ability to guide, evaluate and redirect work to achieve creative excellence

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across functional teams and negotiate creative input

  • Capable of thriving under pressure, fostering optimism, and navigating ambiguity

  • Exceptional portfolio showcasing expertise in motion graphics, animation, and video production

  • Proficiency in industry-standard software (Adobe After Effects, Premiere Pro, Cinema 4D, etc.)

  • Ability to design and implement advanced motion elements, including transitions, visual effects, and 2D/3D animations

  • Strong understanding of how motion design can simplify complex financial information

  • Exceptional attention to detail, creativity, and a passion for visual storytelling

  • Experience with financial products or services is a plus, but not required
