Job Description

The Daily Beast is seeking a dynamic and dedicated Associate Executive Editor to join our news team.

About the Role

The Daily Beast is roaring. Now we need a news executive who can help us turn up the volume. We are recruiting a driven newsroom leader to be a key part of our breaking news operation, which is the core of our journalism.

You already have at least five years of experience as a newsroom leader in a breaking news environment. You’re used to spotting, commissioning, editing, and publishing stories in a fast-paced environment where high editorial standards matter, and where stories are told in words, pictures, video and graphics.

You have brilliant ideas, line-editing, and headline-writing skills. You know how to help reporters shape news-breaking enterprise stories, how to guide those stories to publication, and how to maximize their impact.

Crucially, you're steeped in the news agenda—and especially fluent in the political scene and its ever-shifting cast of characters.

You'll report to our Deputy Executive Editor and support her as she directs the newsroom.

This role is your chance for professional growth at a news site that is growing and investing. More and more people are subscribing to our website and app. And we're bringing our journalism to YouTube and Substack, so our vital voice can be heard wherever people get their journalism.

The pay range for this position is $110,000 - $140,000.

The base salary range represents the anticipated low and high ends of the salary range for this position. Actual salaries may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors, including but not limited to work location, experience, performance, and other factors.
