As leaders of social justice, we expect our students to use their education to improve the lives of others.


The nurse works under the direction of the principal to provide health services to all students, enabling them to perform at the best of their ability and benefit from their educational experiences. They provide assistance and expertise in the delivery of high quality care to improve and ensure student achievement.


Reporting Structure

The Nurse shall report to the principal and have responsibility to the Director of Operations and Assistant Superintendent for Affective Services.


Responsibilities

The nurse will provide and oversee the healthcare for Capital Prep New Rochelle School. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Participate as a member of the school health services department to provide health services to all students;

  • Maintain a daily log of all student and staff visits to the health room;

  • Maintain emergency information for students and staff, and record communications with parents, staff, and community agencies;

  • Use assessment skills to identify students at risk for physical and psychosocial problems, and communicate these health needs to parent or other relevant school personnel;

  • Interpret the health needs of children to parents, and assist families in utilizing community resources to meet their children’s health needs;

  • Promote an awareness of the influence of curriculum, policies, activities and stress levels on the mental health of students and staff;

  • Involve staff, students and parents in maintaining a healthy school environment;

  • Promote standard safety practices and procedures in school buildings and on school property;

  • Provide a school health program which is educational in nature, and where every health situation is utilized as a learning experience for students, parents and staff;

  • Administer medication to students as requested by parents or physicians according to the medication guidelines;

  • Provide for safe storage of medications, and reliable administration and recording of all doses given;

  • Provide health information and input as requested, in the development of 504 and IEP plans;

  • Develop IHPs (Individualized Health Plans) for students, as necessary; and

  • Oversee and ensure the timely delivery of all state-mandated health reports as required by NYSDOE (New York State Department of Education) and the Department of Health, including compilation of student health data.

  • Ensure compliance with New York State immunization requirements and student health examination mandates;

  • Conduct and coordinate required health screenings;

  • Monitor communicable diseases and report required information to the Westchester County Department of Health, New York State Department of Health, NYSED, and other required agencies;

  • Participate in school safety planning and emergency preparedness activities.

  • Coordinate referrals to healthcare providers and community resources.

  • Maintain confidentiality and compliance with FERPA, HIPAA, NYSED requirements, and applicable laws.

  • Oversee and ensure the timely delivery of all state-mandated health reports as required by NYSED and the Department of Health, including compilation of student health data.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Current New York State Registered Professional Nurse (RN) License required;
  • Knowledge of NYSED and NYS Department of Health regulations;
  • Associataes degree in Nursing (ADN) (required); Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) (preferred);

  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification

  • Work experience in a K-12 environment. Experience as a School Nurse preferred.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;

  • Demonstrated ability to follow established policies and procedures;

  • Able to communicate efficiently and clearly;

  • Spanish speaker (proficient) preferred.

Compensation: 

Salary for this position is competitive and commensurate with experience. Capital Preparatory Schools offers a comprehensive benefits package.  This position is an in-person, 12-month, full-time, vacation eligible, exempt role.
