Director, Internal Communications & DEI

The Opportunity:
Based in New York and reporting to our Chief People Officer, you will lead both internal communications and DEI in order to make Datadog an even better place to work and an even more successful business than it is today.
You will guide the design and creation of programs throughout the employee lifecycle to ensure a diverse workforce and equitable internal practices that run parallel with external philanthropic engagements and initiatives. Leading Internal Communications, you will ensure that employees are kept informed, motivated and engaged through clear communications and by driving our employee engagement process.
You are an experienced DEI practitioner with the expertise to assess gaps, coach leaders, and measure progress and a passion to create the experiences that promote meaningful, sustainable progress. You are an excellent writer, a strategic and creative thinker, and skilled at managing relationships with senior leadership all with the goal of driving communications and employee engagement in the organization.
You will:
- Help define Datadog’s mission, vision and values
- Support executive internal communications on all topics relevant to employees: company performance, financials, DEI, achievements, spotlights, surveys etc
- Partner with leadership to create engaging org-wide communications, via channels including email, Slack, our intranet, and most importantly, global all-hands; develop content on our intranet, a Confluence space
- Partner with multiple functions within the people team to create sustainable DEI strategies and programs throughout the talent lifecycle (hiring, performance management, compensation, career development, engagement, training and retention), as well as programs towards our communities
- Coordinate and conceive philanthropic programs (scholarships, volunteering, donations etc)
- Act as a trusted D&I advocate for employees and a change champion for the organization
- Build and nurture our new Community Guilds (ERGs) to ensure they grow into a sustainable initiative; create and moderate safe spaces for honest and practical dialogue around diversity and inclusion
- Establish benchmarks and metrics to ensure effectiveness of DEI programming
- Handle the internal communication response to crisis situations if/as needed
- Create inclusive events that educate and entertain our employees
- Advise, coach, and guide all levels of leadership to ensure competence on internal communications and DEI topics
- Own the creation, launch and action plan of the biannual employee engagement survey at the global level
- Lead the “Social” (People) component for the ESG company-wide report
- Be an active promoter of employee engagement on the People Team through quarterly events, monthly newsletter, top-dog employee recognition etc
You Have:
- 10+ years of internal communications experience and 5+ years of dedicated experience creating and implementing holistic DEI strategies
- Experience in working at large scale and/or international companies (5,000+ employees)
- Experience communicating and rolling-out changes
- Experience shaping, running and measuring programs
- Empathy and ethics-driven approach backed by strong data and metrical findings
- An ability to operate as an effective, thoughtful partner to multiple functions within the People Team and broader organization
- Assertiveness to deal with senior executives, explain DEI strategies and make recommendations to leadership
- An inclusivity- and curiosity-driven mind that is consistently keeping up with the ever-evolving DEI-space
- Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills as well as strong speaking skills
- Good interpersonal and relationship-building skills in order to work with communications and People departments
- Knowledge of the latest innovative communication technology to deliver a more modern communication experience.
