Paint Process Engineer

We’re looking for a Paint Process Engineer to help drive quality, efficiency, and continuous improvement across our paint operations. In this role, you’ll work hands-on with paint equipment, robotic applications, process parameters, suppliers, and cross-functional teams to keep our operation running at its best.

🚨 What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll work directly with the Paint Process team to keep our paint line running smoothly by:

• Supporting daily paint process and maintenance activities while helping the department achieve its safety, quality, delivery, and efficiency goals.
• Operating and optimizing paint process and application equipment in accordance with established control plans and customer quality requirements.
• Troubleshooting product, process, and quality issues; clearly communicate and document findings in accordance with TS-16949 requirements.
• Identifying opportunities for error-proofing and develop solutions that prevent quality issues before they occur.
• Verifying that corrective actions are effective and update control plans and related documentation as required.
• Developing, implementing, verifying, and documenting equipment parameter settings to maintain consistent paint quality.
• Monitoring process capability and key performance trends, preparing reports and analysis for management.
• Programming and optimizing robotic paint paths, including pathwork, application parameters, carrier density, part orientation, and other variables that affect paint transfer efficiency and product quality.
• Partnering with the robot technician team to resolve process and mechanical issues.
• Working closely with paint line personnel to implement process improvements and complete assigned projects.
• Collaborating with paint suppliers to optimize material usage, evaluate formulation compatibility, and address paint performance and quality concerns.
• Working with equipment suppliers to collect and analyze application and performance data when evaluating new paint technologies.
• Partnering with cleaning suppliers to test new processes and products and optimize system performance.
• Participating in continuous improvement teams and help identify opportunities to make our processes safer, more efficient, and more consistent.
• Assisting with the development and maintenance of FMEAs, control plans, and TS-16949 documentation.Take on other responsibilities and projects as assigned.
  

What We’re Looking For

We’re searching for someone who is:

• Previous experience in automotive finishing and robotic paint systems is required.
• Experience with industrial controls, computer technology, and programming is a plus.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Ability to work effectively with production teams, technicians, engineers, suppliers, and other partners.
• A continuous-improvement mindset with a focus on finding practical, lasting solutions.

🚗 Automotive manufacturing experience is a bonus!

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong computer skills and proficiency with the Windows platform.
• Ability to successfully pass the Farnsworth-Munsell 100 Hue Test annually.
• Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Up to 5 years of relevant work experience may substitute for the degree.
  • Candidates combining relevant work experience with current progress toward an engineering degree will also be considered.
