About the Opportunity 

WeWork is seeking a Lead, Paralegal to provide comprehensive legal support across our global Compliance & Investigations functions. This global role is designed for a curious and motivated recent college graduate with interest in compliance and investigations issues who has strong people, communication, and organizational skills. The new Paralegal will support the day-to-day operations of our global compliance and investigations programs. For Compliance, the Paralegal will help maintain the team’s day-to-day operations in responding to requests for member or vendor vetting, disclosures of potential conflicts, and other compliance related inquiries. On the Investigations side, the Paralegal will support internal investigations of alleged misconduct by WeWork members, vendors, or employees. Investigations may include cases of alleged harassment, workplace violence, fraud, or kickbacks. We are looking for someone who is hard-working, willing to learn, and eager to dive in head first.

Responsibilities

Compliance

  • Manage Responses to Compliance Queries

    • On a daily basis, monitor the Compliance team’s global intake portals for queries related to compliance advice, ethics reports, KYC requirements, conflicts of interest disclosures, and member and vendor vetting. 

    • Act as the first level responder and reviewer for low risk checks and queries.

    • Identify higher risk queries and vetting issues and escalate to more senior Compliance colleagues for review and resolution. 

    • Ensure appropriate follow-up is completed and queries are closed out in a timely manner. 

  • Support Communications & Training: Create and update training materials, internal employee websites, policies, and communications to global employees regarding Compliance and Security issues such as awareness of red flags, conflicts of interests, and gift guidelines. 

  • File Organization: Ensure our internal Google drive repository is well-organized and searchable. 

  • Conflicts of Interests Disclosures: At the direction of senior colleagues on the team, conduct initial fact gathering in response to disclosures of potential conflicts of interest disclosed by employees or vendors and report on findings.

Investigations

  • Conduct Fact Finding: Support Investigations colleagues in investigating global reports of misconduct by WeWork members, vendors, or employees. Fact finding tasks may include: Conducting email searches; reviewing secure video footage; attending interviews with reporters, witnesses, and subjects; and collecting and reviewing other evidence such as keycard entry swipes, financial data, time and expense reports, publicly available records and social media content. 

  • Prepare Investigative Reports: Take notes during interviews; support senior colleagues in drafting interview memos or investigative reports or summaries for internal review. 

  • Records Organization & Maintenance: Ensure investigative records are organized and maintained in accordance with internal policies and applicable privacy regulations.

About You
  • Education: Bachelor's degree required

  • Experience: Candidate must have strong interest in legal or investigations work. Prior 1-2 years of experience as a paralegal at a major law firm is welcome but not required. Experience with EXCEL (Google Sheets) and PowerPoint (Google Slides) is required. Experience with, or interest in, general purpose and legal-specific AI tools is also a plus.

  • Communication Skills: Strong communication skills are essential for this role. The candidate must be able to speak to different types of stakeholders all over the globe and be cognizant of cultural differences and nuances.  

  • Organization Skills: The candidate will be required to triage and monitor responses to multiple avenues of escalation, inquiries, and reporting. They must be able to manage multiple ongoing projects and be flexible in adjusting priorities as needed. 

  • Good Judgment & Confidentiality: The candidate must exercise sound professional judgment and discretion in handling sensitive information; they must be capable of maintaining strict confidentiality regarding all compliance and investigative matters.

  • Language: English required; Spanish speakers strongly preferred to assist in supporting teams in Central and South America. 

  • In Office Requirements: Paralegal will generally be expected to be in person in our New York office four days a week. Because this role supports global teams, some flexibility to conduct calls and work outside of normal office hours may also be required.

Compensation & Benefits

Base Pay: $73,500 to $98,000 annually

Incentive Compensation: WeWork employees are eligible to participate in an incentive plan specific to their role. Your recruiter will detail what incentive plan is applicable to this specific role. WeWork incentive plans are subject to the terms of the applicable incentive compensation plan, which will be made available to you after commencing employment. WeWork reserves the right to amend its incentive plans, and nothing in this job requisition or any other document creates a right to a specific incentive plan payment.

Benefits: Full-time employees are eligible for comprehensive benefits (subject to the terms of applicable plans/policies/agreements, which will be made available to you after commencing employment), including: 20 days of PTO, approximately 13 paid holidays, and 80 hours of paid sick time per full calendar year; 16 weeks paid parental leave; competitive healthcare benefits; 401k plan; and life and AD&D insurance.
