About Position
The Principal Engineer in the Centre of Excellence (COE) is responsible for validating designs for projects under execution within the COE. The individual will collaborate with lead engineers and support the COE on key deliverables, ensuring timely execution of projects with a high first-pass yield. They will actively evaluate new ideas and technologies to enable cost optimization and resolve technical issues during project execution by coordinating with interfacing functions, COEs, and site crews. The role includes leading critical technical assignments and programs while providing technical expertise for project execution.
The Principal Engineer will utilize their experience to solve complex problems, develop and achieve objectives for short- and long-term business goals, and demonstrate proficiency in the design and troubleshooting of hydro generators.
Role & Responsibilities
- Validate designs for COE projects under execution, ensuring alignment with key deliverables and timely project completion with a high first-pass yield.
- Collaborate with consulting engineers to develop design practices, update technical guidelines, and maintain robust documentation.
- Evaluate and adopt emerging technologies and solutions, transferring knowledge to the COE team.
- Leverage technical expertise to resolve business problems by collaborating with cross-functional teams, including product lines, systems engineering, material processes, advanced manufacturing, sourcing, quality, and site teams.
- Lead and deliver New Product Introduction (NPI), cost-out programs, and "should-cost" initiatives within the COE.
- Implement lessons learned from fleet and supplier quality issues into new designs, emphasizing design robustness and reliability.
- Exercise technical discretion and decision-making to address and resolve site and customer-related issues.
- Ensure adherence to GE Global Engineering technical standards, including technology, quality, and technical rules.
- Foster a collaborative and innovative team environment that encourages open communication, creative thinking, and cohesive group dynamics.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or advanced degree in engineering with a minimum of 10 years of experience in hydro-related fields.
- Strong expertise in hydro products, components, and systems, with hands-on experience in hydro generator design and engineering execution.
- Proficiency in basic and detailed engineering, with strong skills in checking and validation processes.
- Open-minded and multicultural, capable of working efficiently with cross-regional COE teams.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. Knowledge of additional languages is preferred but not mandatory.

For candidates applying to a U.S. based position, the pay range for this position is between $111,200.00 and $185,400.00. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set.
