Join the team as Twilio’s: Principal Software Engineer Connectivity Observability

About the job

Twilio is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to lead the transformation of its connectivity observability platform into a cohesive, telco-grade system. This individual will play a critical role in unifying our tooling, improving data quality and latency, and enabling real-time, actionable insights across Messaging, Voice, and Email products.

Responsibilities

In this role, you’ll Define and lead the strategy for Twilio's next-generation connectivity observability platform, focusing on unifying tools and standardizing data pipelines.

  • Drive the consolidation of fragmented monitoring systems (e.g., Zabbix, SNES, Grafana, Voice Insights) into a single pane of glass for voice and messaging traffic insights.
  • Architect scalable, real-time data pipelines to support on-demand slicing, correlation, and anomaly detection across carriers and customers.
  • Partner with data engineering and ML teams to implement pragmatic AI/ML-based detection models, prioritizing actionable accuracy over theoretical complexity.
  • Champion data quality improvements—ensuring high completeness, reduced latency, and enriched data with customer and carrier metadata.
  • Build and maintain a SQL-like interface or data exploration layer to democratize access to observability data for engineers, analysts, and incident response teams.
  • Lead design reviews, influence tooling decisions, and mentor engineers across platform and product teams.

Twilio values diverse experiences from all kinds of industries, and we encourage everyone who meets the required qualifications to apply. If your career is just starting or hasn't followed a traditional path, don't let that stop you from considering Twilio. We are always looking for people who will bring something new to the table!

Required:

  • 10+ years of software or platform engineering experience, including deep expertise in observability, data infrastructure, or connectivity systems.
  • Proven experience architecting real-time data systems or observability platforms at scale.
  • Strong background in building or integrating monitoring and visualization tools (Grafana, OpenSearch, Zabbix, SNES, etc.).
  • Demonstrated success working cross-functionally in large organizations to align platform vision with product and operational needs.
  • Proficiency in SQL, Python, or Scala, and data frameworks like Spark, Flink, or Kafka.

Desired:

  • Prior experience in a telco, CPaaS, or large-scale infrastructure environment.
  • Experience applying ML techniques in observability or anomaly detection.
  • Understanding of telecom or carrier-based systems and network-layer traffic monitoring
  • Familiarity with customer-facing metrics, SLAs, and incident management workflows (NOC/SRE experience a plus).
  • Experience with multi-tenant, customer-segmented observability systems.
