About us
Over the last five years, Advocate Technologies has quietly been collecting and structuring a one-of-a-kind dataset with a single goal: bringing pricing transparency to risk. Through real-time market indices, gap analysis tools, and a proprietary rules engine, we have built a diversified data asset representing over $1.5B in insurance pricing exposure that does not exist anywhere else in the world.

We are now expanding a tactile, high-ownership, team of three responsible for turning this data into live market products. The team operates with high standards under one mindset: identify the problem, solve it, and move on.

The bar is high, the feedback loop is tight, and your impact will be immediate. This is a rare opportunity to get in early and build something foundational in an industry overdue for change.

About the role

We’re hiring a NYC based Product Engineer to own the connective tissue between product strategy and our data engine.

The Advocate Market Terminal is powered by structured, transaction-level insurance data. As we expand our feature set, the underlying data requirements grow. In this role, you will (1) ensure that our roadmap is being supported by the right data funnels and capture processes, (2) ship in platform features that will support the vision of the Terminal, and (3) contribute to a lean team focused on radical price transparency.

You will work directly with the product lead as a technical right hand on both data-related decisions and feature development.

This is not a reactive role. It is a forward-looking ownership position responsible for keeping our data platform aligned with product ambition.

What you'll do

  • Own and ship front-end features in the Terminal, from comps tools to real-time index views, working directly with the lead engineer to scope, build, and iterate.
  • Partner with data analysts to design and maintain the extraction, cleansing, and enrichment pipelines that feed live market products.
  • Translate product roadmap priorities into data requirements to identify what needs to be captured, structured, or surfaced before it becomes a blocker.
  • Build and refine the UI layer that turns complex, transaction-level insurance data into something customers want to use every day.

What success looks like

  • 30 days: You understand the data model, the product surface, and how the two connect. You're shipping meaningful contributions to the Terminal.
  • 90 days: You're independently owning features end-to-end: identifying the data dependency to deploying the customer-facing result.
  • 6 months: You've become the person who sees gaps before they slow us down, whether that's a missing data pipeline, a UI bottleneck, or a feature the market is asking for.

What we're looking for

  • 2-5 years of experience building production web applications
  • Advanced use of AI tools (Claude, Agents, etc)
  • Comfort working across the stack when needed
  • Experience working with data-heavy products: dashboards, analytics tools, pricing platforms, etc.
  • Strong product instinct
  • Ability to work with high autonomy in a small team
  • Minimum of 3 days in NYC office

Nice to have

  • Exposure to insurance, financial services, or any regulated/data-dense industry
  • Experience with data pipelines
  • Familiarity with real-time data, streaming, or index/benchmark products
  • Prior experience at an early-stage company or on a small product team where you wore multiple hats
  • Interest in market structure, pricing transparency, or building tools that shift how an industry operates

What we offer

  • Stock options
  • Salary Range: $140,000 – $185,000 USD
  • Work-from-home stipend
  • Health & Wellness: Standard Health Benefits
  • Hybrid Work
  • Learning & development budget + team events
  • Mentorship from industry leaders (ex-Goldman Sachs, Shopify, Product Board, and more)
