Project Coordinator, Safety Projects and Programs

The Transportation Planning and Management Division (TPM) is responsible for the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible movement of people and goods on the City's streets, supporting the larger goals of economic and social vitality for people living, working, and doing business in New York City. The Division’s responsibilities include planning, street design, technical analysis, signs, transit development, freight mobility and markings, ensuring the safety of motor vehicle occupants, pedestrians, and cyclists. Research, Implementation, and Safety Unit (RIS) is a multi-disciplinary team dedicated to making the streets of New York City safer for all users as part of Vision Zero, a citywide policy striving to eliminate serious injuries and fatalities from traffic crashes. RIS uses a data-driven approach to design and implement street safety redesign projects, administer safety programs, promote senior and youth safety, manage crash data and data applications,
conduct large-scale safety research projects, and lead agency action plans related to safety and Vision Zero programs/policy.
RIS’ Safety Projects and Programs team is seeking candidates for a Project Coordinator position. This role will be responsible for planning, developing, designing, conducting outreach, and implementing Street Improvement Projects to improve safety for pedestrians, motor vehicles, bicyclists, transit riders, and motorcyclists, with a focus on the goals of the Bus Action Plan and Vision Zero. The position will focus on incorporating proven safety treatments to improve safety for all users as part of DOT’s commitment to Vision Zero and improving the safety, reliability, and accessibility of transit corridors.
Key tasks for this position include performing research and crash analysis to identify high crash locations, scoping and designing safety improvement projects for high crash locations, analyzing traffic data, preparing reports/graphics and maps, conducting field work including on-site evaluations and field meetings, coordinating project implementation, and providing technical assistance to senior staff. The selected candidates will also be required to participate in community outreach, including developing outreach plans and materials, meetings with public officials, Community Boards, and inter- and intra-agency stakeholders. The ideal candidate should be detail-oriented, a capable team player, and possess excellent communication skills. COMMUNITY COORDINATOR - 56058

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
