We own and operate a broad array of businesses engaged in recorded music, music publishing, merchandising, and audiovisual content in more than 60 countries. We identify and develop recording artists and songwriters, and we produce, distribute and promote the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful music to delight and entertain fans around the world.

How we LEAD:

Universal Music Publishing Group is seeking a Promotion Manager to promote the music of composers published by Universal Music Publishing Classics & Screen (UMP C&S) U.S. to North American music markets. This role works closely with the division’s Director to create performance opportunities for C&S composers to fulfil short- and long-term growth trajectories for UMP C&S’s US classical music publishing business.

The successful candidate will work closely with UMP C&S’s curated U.S. roster; organization stakeholders including orchestras, operas, choreographers and dance companies, and artists; as well as UMP C&S’s international promotion teams. This is a highly cross-functional role requiring equal comfort in roster-facing and outward-facing client management. We are looking for a promotion manager who is excited by the opportunity to continue building UMP C&S as a market leader in the U.S. classical and contemporary classical publishing business.

The role is based in New York, NY and requires close partnerships with UMP C&S’s international offices.

How you’ll CREATE:

This is a revenue generating role. Success and growth opportunities are modelled on short- and long-term generated revenues.

  • Support North American Promotion work in collaboration with Director to promote and generate performances for UMP C&S composers across all genres, including but not limited to orchestra, opera, dance, and performing arts centers (PACs)/festivals

  • Execute composer and promotion strategy for UMP C&S US composers for short- and long-term growth trajectories in North America, including data management, tracking, and upkeep, in collaboration with Director

  • Represent the North American territory in the promotion of other ex-US UMP C&S publishing operations

  • Source and develop commissions with composers and promotion colleagues in North America and internationally

  • Client Management: alongside Director, act as the direct point of contact for composers, organizations, artist managers, creative collaborators, or others as appropriate

  • Represent UMP C&S US at select composer performances, industry events, domestically and in North America as required

  • Support Director in regular Promotion meetings (monthly or quarterly as appropriate) with UMP C&S US-signed composers

  • Set, track, and report promotion goals, supporting Director in generating regular promotion reports for GMs.

  • Create and disseminate local (US) eblasts/content and regularly maintain and update email distribution lists

  • Database management (travel, performance, editorial, Dynamics, Monday) as required

  • Additional work as required

Bring your VIBE:

  • 3+ years of experience working in the promotion or performance of classical and/or contemporary classical music

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with experience influencing stakeholders and leadership

  • Excellent organizational and project management skills, with a demonstrated ability to manage different priorities in a dynamic environment

  • Established network of industry contacts

  • Extensive knowledge of classical and/or contemporary classical music

  • Strong Microsoft Office skills
