Description

We are seeking an experienced AML Quality Control (QC) / Financial Crime professional with strong expertise in anti-money laundering regulations, financial crime typologies, investigative processes, and case quality review.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience conducting and/or reviewing AML investigations, assessing suspicious activity, identifying investigative gaps, and ensuring cases meet regulatory and internal quality standards. Experience with AML case management platforms such as Actimize, Oracle, SAS, or Verafin is highly preferred.

We are particularly interested in candidates who can discuss their AML QC review experience, challenges encountered, and specific use cases or examples demonstrating their ability to identify issues and improve investigative quality.

Key Qualifications

  • AML Expertise: Strong understanding of AML regulations, financial crime typologies, red flags, and associated risks.
  • AML QC Experience: Hands-on experience performing quality control reviews of AML investigations, including identifying gaps, inconsistencies, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Case Management Platforms: Proficiency with at least one AML case management or transaction monitoring platform, such as Actimize, Oracle, SAS, Verafin, or similar tools.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Strong knowledge of AML compliance frameworks, regulatory requirements, and investigative standards.
  • SAR Experience: Demonstrated experience drafting, reviewing, and/or submitting Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs).
  • Investigative & Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze complex transactional and behavioral data, identify suspicious patterns, and determine appropriate investigative actions.
  • Risk Assessment: Strong understanding of customer and account risk factors, including sanctions, fraud, terrorist financing, bribery and corruption, and insider threats.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly document investigative findings and communicate recommendations.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy, consistency, and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct and/or perform QC reviews of end-to-end AML investigations across cases of varying complexity.
  • Review investigations involving potential money laundering, terrorist financing, fraud, sanctions violations, and other financial crime risks.
  • Assess whether investigative conclusions are supported by appropriate evidence and whether cases meet established regulatory and internal standards.
  • Evaluate whether investigators have applied reasonable grounds to suspect (RGS) appropriately when determining whether suspicious activity should be escalated or reported.
  • Perform holistic reviews of customer relationships, considering relevant risk factors such as:
  • AML risk
  • Sanctions exposure
  • Fraud
  • Bribery and corruption
  • Terrorist financing
  • Insider threats
  • Customer and transactional risk
  • Review investigative narratives, supporting documentation, disposition decisions, and SAR recommendations for completeness, accuracy, and consistency.
  • Identify investigative gaps, process deficiencies, recurring errors, and quality trends, and provide actionable feedback.
  • Utilize AML case management and transaction monitoring platforms to document, manage, review, and resolve cases.
  • Draft and/or review SARs in accordance with regulatory requirements and internal policies.
  • Analyze transactional, customer, and behavioral data to identify suspicious activity and emerging financial crime patterns.
  • Partner with investigators, compliance teams, and other stakeholders to improve investigative quality and consistency.
  • Support enhancements to AML investigative procedures, quality standards, and controls.
  • Ensure all investigations and QC reviews remain aligned with AML policies, procedures, regulatory expectations, and industry best practices.
