Position Overview:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Reinsurance Claims Analyst to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and analyzing ceded claims, ensuring accurate reporting and compliance with reinsurance agreements. This role requires a strong understanding of reinsurance principles, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and analyze ceded claims to ensure accuracy and compliance with reinsurance treaties and agreements.
  • Prepare and submit timely and accurate reinsurance claims to reinsurers.
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies or issues related to ceded claims.
  • Handle internal and external reinsurance queries through a ticketing system.
  • Evaluate large sets of loss data to identify claims with a potential impact on Starr’s reinsurance program; draft and distribute reinsurance reports containing a thorough summary of loss details and relevant facts.
  • Determine the applicable facultative and/or treaty reinsurance coverage.
  • Calculate the net recovery to Starr factoring all reinsurance and underlying insurance including deductibles, self-insured retentions, and other policy layers.
  • Work closely with brokers and Starr claims managers to respond to reinsurers and any other detailed queries.
  • Compile and distribute financial documentation and proof of release agreements in support of reinsurance recovery billings.
  • Support reinsurance audits of claims data and processes by handling IT and auditor logistics to internal claims systems.
  • Assist in addressing audit findings and support the implementation of corrective actions as needed.
  • Assist with accounting queries and payment supporting documentation.
  • Stay current with industry trends, regulations, and best practices related to reinsurance and claims management.

Qualifications:

  • 7+ year professional experience within the insurance industry with a minimum 5 years of experience in claims analysis, reinsurance or a related function.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong understanding of reinsurance principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of claims or reinsurance processing.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • A college degree is preferred.
  • Professional certification (e.g., ARe, CPCU) is a plus.
