Design technical architectures and roadmaps for client projects and internal products. Lead technical strategy, evaluate technology and AI adoption, scope and estimate projects, participate in sales and executive discussions, and make build-versus-buy decisions. Solve critical engineering problems hands-on, review architecture and code, mentor technical leaders, and ensure scalable, secure, cost-effective delivery across remote distributed teams.
This is a remote position.
Scopic is a fully remote software company with 250+ professionals across 60+ countries and we're looking for a Solutions Architect!
This is a developer at heart who also thinks like a business owner. You'll design the technical direction of client projects and internal products, step in on the hardest engineering problems, and sit in the room when decisions about clients, revenue, and company strategy get made.
Responsibilities
- Share ownership of technical strategy, architectural standards, and engineering priorities
- Own the product and technical roadmap for internal products: decide what gets built, why, and in what order based on user and business value
- Bring a product lens to client projects: challenge requirements, propose better solutions, and focus effort on what moves the client's business
- Design solution architectures for new client projects and internal products, from discovery through delivery
- Join sales and pre-sales conversations: scope projects, estimate effort, and translate client business goals into technical plans
- Review and challenge architecture decisions across teams; step in hands-on on critical or high-risk technical problems
- Evaluate build vs. buy decisions, tech stack choices, and AI adoption with cost, risk, and ROI in mind
- Represent engineering with executives and client stakeholders, including C-level
- Mentor tech leads and senior engineers; raise the bar on code quality, security, and delivery practices
Requirements
- 10+ years in software development, with at least 3 years in an architect, principal engineer, or tech lead role
- Hands-on coding ability today, not only in the past; comfortable reviewing pull requests and prototyping
- Experience in AI-powered engineering (including AI in the SDLC) and understanding of the latest AI/agents capabilities
- Proven experience in designing distributed, cloud native, scalable systems. Product ownership experience: you've taken a product or major feature end to end, from defining the problem to launch and iteration based on user feedback and metrics
- Strong hands-on experience with Node.js, React and Next.js
- Strong knowledge of Python (scripting, data processing, or backend services)
- Track record of working directly with clients or executives on scope, budget, and technical trade-offs
- Strong business judgment: you can explain how a technical decision affects cost, timeline, and revenue
- Experience estimating and scoping projects
- Excellent written and spoken English
- Available to work in the PST timezone
- Experience working in a remote, distributed team
