Rational Dynamics builds customized AI reasoning systems for tasks of high cognitive complexity.

Our initial market is the world’s leading institutional asset owners. We work very closely with these customers to create specialized, rigorous benchmark datasets encompassing their most valuable and difficult knowledge work. Then we use the benchmarks to construct agentic large reasoning models, applying the same rigor to prove that the models correctly do the work. Customers access the models through a tailored application service, making their most skilled, expensive workers dramatically more productive.

Job description

As a Research Scientist, you will collaborate with enterprise customers to automate their hardest knowledge work using ML/AI. You will lead the design and deployment of customized large reasoning models and related systems, ranging from retrieval tools to agents. You will develop scalable platforms for deploying AI agents. Your work will fundamentally change the way financial firms use AI.

Duties

• Design and implement custom AI solutions by integrating frontier models with proprietary data
• Help develop a scalable platform for deploying AI agents across diverse client environments
• Stay current on LLMs, retrieval techniques, evaluation methods, and other emerging trends and best practices
• Contribute to the advancement of AI through research publications
• Help clients achieve desired outcomes by deeply understanding their workflows and needs

Requirements

• Relentlessness, in large quantities
• Demonstrable clarity of thought
• Proven ability to train, fine-tune, and deploy large language/reasoning models
• Command of machine learning fundamentals
• Skill with agent frameworks, e.g. React
• Strong communication skills; ability to explain technical concepts to non-experts
• Accomplishments in the field of ML/AI
• Strong programming skills

Preferred qualifications

• Ph.D. in statistics, computer science, mathematics, or a related field
• A portfolio of previous research and/or product work in LLMs/retrieval techniques
• Skill in improving LLM performance via fine-tuning/reinforcement learning
