As a Senior Consultant or Manager specialising in Process Safety Management (PSM), you will work with clients to identify, design and implement practical solutions to complex process safety and operational risk challenges.

Working from the boardroom to the shop floor, you will help clients move beyond compliance towards stronger risk management, leadership and organisational capability – embedding improvements that deliver sustainable process safety performance.

At Manager level, you will take greater ownership for client relationships, project leadership and the development of our teams, while contributing to account development and future opportunities.

Process Safety & Operational Risk

High-hazard industries operate in environments where failures in process safety can have significant consequences for people, assets, communities and business performance.

Your Impact at dss+

You will lead and contribute to PSM and Operational Risk transformation programmes, working closely with senior executives, operational leaders and frontline teams to understand risk, strengthen management systems and build sustainable organisational capability.

You will combine your technical process safety expertise with strong consulting and problem-solving skills to develop solutions appropriate to each client's operating environment, culture and business priorities.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead and deliver PSM and Operational Risk Management workstreams and transformation programmes within high-hazard and asset-intensive organisations.

  • Assess existing process safety systems, capabilities and performance to identify risks, gaps and opportunities for improvement.

  • Design and implement practical PSM/ORM solutions aligned to the client's operational environment, culture and business objectives.

  • Work across client organisations, from executive leadership to operational and frontline teams, translating strategic objectives into practical operational change.

  • Engage senior executives and operational leaders to understand business challenges and connect operational and process safety risks with wider business performance.

  • Facilitate assessments, workshops, training and executive coaching to strengthen leadership and organisational process safety capability.

  • Act as a trusted adviser to clients, identifying emerging risks and supporting effective decision-making throughout transformation programmes.

  • Lead and support multidisciplinary project teams, ensuring high-quality delivery and measurable client outcomes.

  • Coach and mentor colleagues, helping develop process safety and operational risk capability across dss+.

  • Contribute to the continued development of dss+ methodologies, intellectual property, thought leadership and best practices in Process Safety and Operational Risk Management.

  • At Manager level, contribute to account development, proposals and the identification of opportunities to expand our impact with clients.

You are an experienced process safety professional who combines strong technical expertise with a practical understanding of how safety and risk management operate in complex industrial environments.

You are curious, analytical and comfortable moving between technical detail and broader business challenges. You can engage effectively from the shop floor to senior executive level and are motivated by helping organisations translate process safety principles into practical, sustainable improvements.

You enjoy working collaboratively, leading others and solving complex problems in environments where your work can make a meaningful difference.

Experience

  • Significant experience in Process Safety Management, Operational Risk Management or closely related disciplines.

  • Practical experience designing, implementing or improving PSM programmes within operational environments.

  • Strong understanding of how process safety management systems, operational controls, leadership and organisational capability combine to influence performance.

  • Experience conducting or facilitating process safety assessments, risk reviews and improvement programmes.

  • Experience working with senior leaders, operational management and frontline teams.

  • Proven experience leading technical workstreams or complex projects in industrial environments.

  • Experience within high-hazard or asset-intensive industries such as oil & gas, chemicals, petrochemicals, mining & metals, manufacturing, energy or related sectors.

  • Consulting experience is advantageous, although strong industry practitioners with the ability to operate effectively in a client-facing consulting environment are encouraged to apply.

For Manager-level candidates, we would additionally expect demonstrated experience leading client engagements and project teams, developing senior client relationships and contributing to account or business development.

  • Effective leadership skills and the ability to lead project teams in complex environments.

  • Strong written, verbal and presentation skills.

  • Curious, collaborative and adaptable, with a commitment to continuous learning and knowledge sharing.

Education & Professional Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline, or equivalent professional experience.

  • Master's degree, MBA or relevant professional qualifications would be advantageous.

  • Typically 10+ years of relevant Process Safety experience, with greater depth of experience and leadership expected for appointment at Manager level.

Languages

Required: Professional fluency in English.

Mobility

This role can be based anywhere in United States of America.

The nature of our consulting work requires significant time working directly with clients and their operations. Candidates should therefore be comfortable with travel of up to approximately 80%, including travel to client sites across US and potentially internationally.
