GEICO is seeking an experienced litigation attorney to join its in-house Corporate Litigation and Investigations team. This role will manage a portfolio of complex general commercial and corporate litigation, with an emphasis on intellectual property matters involving patents, trademarks, and related claims. The position will also support privacy, technology, and data-related litigation impacting the Company’s operations, products, and strategic initiatives.

The successful candidate will partner closely with business leaders and cross-functional stakeholders while working within a collaborative legal department valued for providing practical, business-focused advice. 

Primary Responsibilities

General Litigation & Advisory Support

  • Counsel internal clients and senior leadership on litigation trends and risk exposure.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners to support enterprise-wide legal initiatives.

  • Monitor relevant legal developments and proactively advise on their business impact.

  • Support additional corporate litigation matters as needed.

Intellectual Property & Specialized Litigation

  • Manage and oversee intellectual property litigation, including patent, trademark, trade secret, and related IP disputes.

  • Develop litigation strategy in coordination with internal business and technical stakeholders.

  • Assess litigation risk, exposure, and potential business impact and provide clear, actionable recommendations.

  • Coordinate and manage outside counsel, including oversight of strategy, budgets, and work product.

Complex Commercial Litigation

  • Manage complex commercial and corporate litigation, including contract disputes, business torts, and other high-exposure matters.

  • Lead all phases of litigation, including early case assessment, discovery, motion practice, expert strategy, and trial preparation.

  • Advise business leaders on litigation risk, resolution strategy, and dispute avoidance.

  • Partner with internal stakeholders across Legal, Finance, Operations, and Business Units to align litigation strategy with business objectives.

Privacy & Technology Litigation

  • Support and manage litigation involving data privacy, cybersecurity, technology, and emerging digital-risk issues.

  • Partner with teams across Technology, Information Security, Product, and Compliance on litigation and risk mitigation strategies.

  • Monitor and advise on emerging litigation trends related to privacy, technology, and data-driven business models.

  • Assist in developing coordinated responses to litigation implicating regulatory, operational, and reputational considerations.

Basic Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

  • Admission to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.

  • 8–10 years of litigation experience at a law firm, government agency, and/or in-house legal department.

  • Substantial experience handling complex litigation, including intellectual property, commercial, privacy, or technology-related disputes.

  • Strong analytical judgment and decision-making skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal issues to non-lawyers.

  • Demonstrated ability to balance legal risk with business objectives.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple matters, priorities, and stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing professional malpractice litigation.

  • Trial and/or appellate experience.

  • Prior in-house experience or significant experience advising corporate clients.

  • Experience working directly with business, technical, or product teams.

  • Demonstrated leadership capability appropriate for a Senior Counsel role.

Annual Salary

$148,625.00 - $260,350.00

The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
