Mastercard is seeking a Senior Counsel (Director) to provide strategic, end to end legal support to assigned business units in Brazil, notably to Customer Risk Management. This role serves as a senior legal advisor and trusted business partner, facilitating thoughtful risk taking while ensuring alignment with Mastercard's strategy, internal policies, and applicable laws and regulations. The position will be based in São Paulo, Brazil and report directly to the Head of Legal in Brazil.
About the Role• Serve as the principal legal advisor for complex, high value, and high visibility matters concerning collateral agreements and risk management structures.• Structure, draft, review, and negotiate sophisticated commercial and financial agreements, identifying material legal and business risks and providing pragmatic, solutions oriented advice.• Advise on legal matters related to the electronic payments and financial services ecosystem, partnering with subject matter experts across compliance, regulatory, risk, tax, privacy, and intellectual property.• Manage and coordinate external counsel on complex matters.• Mentor and coach junior attorneys and legal professionals, contributing to capability building, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement within the legal team.• Contribute to regional and global legal projects, as required.
All About You• Law degree and admission to the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB), in good standing.• 10+ years of post qualification legal experience, with strong experience in complex negotiations and collateral agreements.• Solid background in financial services; experience in the electronic payments industry is a strong differential.• Demonstrated ability to operate autonomously on sophisticated matters, balancing legal risk with business objectives.• Excellent drafting, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.• Leadership mindset with experience mentoring and developing others.• Fluent in English (spoken and written).• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
