Position Summary: 

The Senior Development Assistant in the Philanthropic Leadership Group (PLG) reports to and provides essential administrative support and analytical research skills to two senior staff members in the department: They also will support team-wide projects as needed.  

PLG serves as the strategic engager of major donors to UJA’s annual campaign. The work of our team is varied and includes a myriad programs and events throughout the year to engage and steward UJA’s major donors; This engagement is through UJA’s major giving societies at the $25K+ gift level. Another core focus of our work includes collaborating with and assisting other fundraising departments on engagement and solicitation strategies for their major donors. PLG is ultimately responsible for closing all major gifts throughout the organization.

Major Responsibilities:  

  • Navigate and maintain a sophisticated donor database. 
  • Use the database to generate gift reports and solicitation materials
  • Support senior staff in managing C suite and senior lay leadership solicitations and engagements.
  • Build internal relationships and successfully navigate the various departments in a large organization to effectively and expeditiously complete assigned tasks. 
  • Assist in the development of fundraising materials, which may include assembling mailings, processing gifts, and preparing gift and solicitation related paperwork. 
  • Oversee and/or staff fundraising and volunteering events and site visits, some of which will require time before and after business hours. 
  • Maintain several inboxes, responding to donor requests in a timely manner. 
  • Track attendance for events and communicate regularly with major donors who RSVP or require additional information. 
  • Support professionals in everyday tasks, managing calendars, scheduling meetings, answering phones, etc. 
  • Prepare staff for internal team and external interdepartmental meetings, as well as donor meetings and site visits, including logistics, and preparation of materials. 
  • Document donor meetings and significant correspondences to maintain accurate records of activity and engagement. 
  • Track and research prospective donors; maintaining charts to track strategy for donor and prospect engagement. 
  • General administrative duties, such as routing mail, filing, photocopying, and faxing. 

 Qualifications and Competencies:  

  • Bachelor’s degree and related administrative experience 
  • Be comfortable using technology and learning new databases 
  • Be able to work on projects independently while also working as part of a team 
  • Be confident in overseeing and managing projects 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) 
  • Positive work ethic, with strong interpersonal and communication skills 
  • Detail-oriented, effective time manager, with the ability to prioritize and multitask in an extremely fast-paced work environment 
  • Flexibility to work at events and programs when required, some of which will be outside of normal business hours 

Salary Information

The salary for this role is $50,000/year.

Reporting Line:

This role reports to the Vice President, Philanthropic Leadership Group and is a hybrid position, with a set three days/week in office.
