The Senior Engineer, IT Business Analyst, is a member of MissionSquare’s Information Technology team and serves as the primary technology subject matter expert for retirement products and services supporting record keeping, investment management and brokerage business lines. This position works with key business stakeholders and technical teams to define goals and solutions to meet business needs, providing expert guidance to analysts, project teams, Product Owners, and business leaders when evaluating issues, trends, risks, and enhancement opportunities. The analyst is responsible for gathering, analyzing, and documenting requirements, identifying process improvements, proactively identifying business, operational, and technology risks and recommending solutions, and leading project planning and execution activities by coordinating multiple teams to ensure timely and successful delivery of initiatives.

Essential Functions for this role include:

  • Partner with stakeholders to elicit, analyze, and document business requirements and functional specifications, serving as the primary technology subject matter expert supporting record keeping, investment management and brokerage business lines.

  • Serve as a liaison the primary point of coordination between business units and IT departments, ensuring clear communication and collaboration throughout a project lifecycle.

  • Convert business needs into technical specifications, user stories, and functional requirements for the development team. Work closely with development teams to ensure solutions align with business objectives, regulatory requirements, supported product capabilities, and end-to-end operational processes.

  • Develop and maintain system, process, and user documentation, including data models and diagrams, and promote consistent business analysis and project documentation practices across supported initiatives.

  • Assist Lead and coordinate in testing software to ensure it functions correctly and meets specified user requirements.

  • Log defects in JIRA defect tracking tool, collaborate with developers to resolve defects, retest failed test scenarios, and close defects once remediated. Lead root-cause analysis for complex or recurring issues, identify trends, and recommend business, operational, or technology solutions.

  • Facilitate meetings, workshops, and presentations to ensure alignment and clarity. Lead project planning activities, including scope definition, milestone and timeline development, resource coordination, dependency management, implementation readiness, and deliverable tracking. Identify project risks, business impacts, and resource constraints; develop mitigation and escalation plans; and communicate project status, risks, dependencies, and recommendations to business leaders, Technology leadership, and executive stakeholders.

  • Partner with Product Owners and business stakeholders to gather requirements, refine priorities, and support the delivery of new capabilities.

  • Support production issue analysis, root cause identification, and resolution activities in coordination with technical and functional teams.

  • Performs other duties as assigned

If you have the following skills, we encourage you to apply:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred in Information Systems, Engineering, Business, Project Management, or other related discipline; or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.

  • 12+ years of relevant experience along with 7+ years of business analysis, systems analysis, or technology delivery experience.

  • 5+ years working within financial services, asset management, recordkeeping, retirement services, brokerage, or related industries.

  • Experience supporting Agile delivery teams, requirements management, user acceptance testing, and stakeholder engagement.

  • Ability to engage key business stakeholders, Operations and Technology teams, Product Owners, architects, vendors, and executive stakeholders to facilitate discussions, resolve competing priorities, and align stakeholders on solutions.

  • Proficiency in requirements analysis, business process modeling, data modeling, project planning, risk and dependency management, and SDLC methodologies, including Agile.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, executive presentation, facilitation, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.

  • The ability to proactively identify business, operational, and technology risks; analyze issues and trends; identify root causes; evaluate impacts; and recommend effective and sustainable solutions.

  • Experience writing SQL queries to assist in evaluating data and validating test results.

  • Demonstrated project management experience, including project planning, scope and milestone management, resource coordination, risk mitigation, dependency management, status reporting, and executive communication.

  • Ability to lead multiple concurrent, complex initiatives across business and Technology functions.

  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, organizational, and decision-making skills with the ability to balance multiple priorities and drive business outcomes.

  • Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies, Jira, Confluence, and related project delivery and collaboration tools.

  • Ability to build trusted relationships and influence decision-making across business and technology teams without direct authority.
