Role Overview:

Success Academy Charter Schools is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to join its highly collaborative Advisory Legal team. This is an excellent opportunity for a creative, dedicated attorney to grow and develop as an in-house generalist while contributing to a mission-driven organization committed to delivering excellent public education and supporting the growth and flourishing of its employees. You do not need a background in education- you just have to be a curious self-starter. We look forward to bringing on the right candidate and helping you learn this area!

Key Responsibilities:

• Advise on legal questions touching all aspects of our operations, including expansion, compliance, charter management, and our day-to-day operations.

• Manage regulatory reporting to authorizers and government agencies.

• Support advocacy and lobbying efforts.

• Draft, review, and negotiate agreements, using pragmatic business judgment and making appropriate risk determinations.

• Advise on data privacy issues.

• Conduct legal research and writing.

• Demonstrated interest in education and/or the nonprofit sector.

• Self-motivated, intellectually curious, and willing to take on new challenges.

• Strong interest in supporting advocacy and expansion efforts in New York and beyond.

• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

• Flexible, proactive, and collaborative, with a sense of humor.

• Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements:

• J.D. from an accredited U.S. law school (or equivalent).

• Licensed to practice in at least one U.S. state, with admission to the New York Bar or eligibility for in-house qualification in New York.

• At least six + years of legal experience, including in-house at a fast-paced company, nonprofit, and/or BigLaw.
