Company Description

INFICON is a leading provider of innovative instrumentation, critical sensor technologies, and Smart Manufacturing/Industry 4.0 software solutions that enhance productivity and quality of tools, processes, and complete factories. These analysis, measurement and control products are essential for gas leak detection in air conditioning/refrigeration and automotive manufacturing. They are vital to equipment manufacturers and end-users in the complex fabrication of semiconductors and thin film coatings for optics, flat panel displays, solar cells and industrial vacuum coating applications. Other users of our vacuum-based processes include the life sciences, research, aerospace, packaging, heat treatment, laser cutting and many other industrial processes. We also leverage our expertise in vacuum technology to provide unique, toxic chemical analysis products for emergency response, security, and environmental health and safety.

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and driven Senior Mechanical Engineer with deep expertise in new product design. This role is central to the development of robust, manufacturable, and environmentally sealed products across our portfolio. The ideal candidate combines a rigorous engineering foundation with hands-on experience in design for manufacturability, environmental protection standards, and advanced simulation methods. You will collaborate closely with electrical, firmware, and systems teams to deliver high-quality hardware from concept through production.

  • Lead full-lifecycle mechanical design and analysis for sealed electronics enclosures, vacuum-compatible assemblies, and precision sensor platforms.

  • Design products to meet IP67 (and up to IP68) ingress protection standards, including gasket selection, sealing geometry, and validation testing protocols.

  • Develop thermal control strategies for sensitive electronic components and sensor assemblies requiring tight temperature regulation, including active heating, cooling, and stabilization circuits.

  • Perform steady-state and transient simulation using FEA tools (e.g., ANSYS ) to validate designs and predict performance prior to prototyping.

  • Design for thermal management in vacuum environments, including conduction-dominant heat transfer paths, radiation considerations, and material selection for low-outgassing and high thermal conductivity.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (electrical, firmware, manufacturing, quality) to integrate mechanical solutions into complete product architectures.

  • Collaborate with electrical engineers to co-design PCB layouts, component placement strategies, and power dissipation budgets that align with thermal constraints.

  • Define and execute mechanical validation plans including environmental testing, sealing verification, and structural load testing.

  • Support sustaining engineering efforts including field failure analysis, component obsolescence management, and cost-reduction initiatives.

  • Participate in Agile sprint planning and cross-functional design reviews, providing clear technical status updates and driving issues to resolution.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience.

Additional Information
