Job Summary & Objectives

The Senior Paralegal is a seasoned bankruptcy professional responsible for supporting all aspects of in-court Chapter 11 matters from pre-filing through case administration and plan process. This role coordinates and prepares complex case materials, manages diligence and filing workstreams, organizes and maintains case files and dockets, liaises with clients, claims and noticing agents, opposing counsel and court personnel, and performs factual research using internal and external resources. Working closely with attorneys, the Senior Paralegal provides experienced, hands-on support for preparatory work, first-day pleadings, hearings, contested matters, and other critical phases of Chapter 11 cases.

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Support in-court Chapter 11 cases from pre-filing through confirmation and post-effective date matters, coordinating case calendars, deadlines and key deliverables across multiple workstreams

  • Assist with preparatory work for Chapter 11 filings, including entity and corporate authority review, compilation of debtor information, creditor and contract data gathering, diligence coordination and assembly of filing checklists and case-opening materials

  • Draft, proofread, organize and finalize first-day pleadings, declarations, exhibits, proposed orders and related hearing materials for attorney review and filing

  • Coordinate electronic filing and service of pleadings and other court papers, including working with claims and noticing agents, local counsel and court personnel to ensure compliance with court rules, judge-specific procedures and case deadlines

  • Prepare hearing and omnibus materials by organizing exhibits, witness materials, binders, courtesy copies and document indices and provide in-court and remote hearing support as needed

  • Monitor court dockets and case developments; maintain pleading, hearing and service trackers; summarize filings, orders and key events for attorneys and case teams

  • Assist with schedules and statements, creditor matrices, claims reconciliation support, solicitation and balloting support and other case administration tasks in coordination with attorneys and external agents

  • Conduct factual and procedural research relating to bankruptcy filings, court rules, local practices and case-specific issues using internal and external databases and resources

  • Organize, manage and quality check large volumes of case materials, including exhibits, service lists, claims-related data and other case documents

  • Provide guidance to case teams on Chapter 11 workflows and filing processes and delegate or coordinate tasks with junior legal assistants and other support professionals as appropriate

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree required

Preferred

  • Paralegal certificate from an approved paralegal program preferred

Skills and Experience

Required

  • 6+ years of relevant experience required

  • Ability to effectively present information verbally and in writing

  • Ability to proofread for contextual, grammatical and spelling errors

  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office Suite

  • Proficiency with Internet research and legal research databases, i.e. Westlaw, Lexis/Nexis

  • Can organize, prioritize, plan and multi-task work activities in a high-pressure environment with attention to details and deadlines

  • Ability to work independently or in a team with limited supervision

  • Knowledge of timekeeping, expense reporting applications and legal billing processes

  • Knowledge of legal principles and practices, Firm and practice-area-specific procedures, terminology, court and/or agency processes and procedures

  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to understand and summarize case/deal-related documents

  • Flexibility to work late and travel occasionally

Preferred

  • Knowledge of Excel, iManage, DAPS, LiveNote, Relativity, Opus 2 preferred

Salary Information

NY Only: The estimated base salary range for this position is $140,000 to $160,000 at the time of posting.

The actual salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. This role is non-exempt meaning it is overtime pay eligible.
