About the Role
Global X is seeking a highly motivated and accomplished attorney to join its Legal team as Senior Product Counsel. This role is ideal for an experienced Investment Company Act of 1940 (“1940 Act”) practitioner who can lead complex ETF product work, support strategic initiatives, and serve as a seasoned partner to the Associate General Counsel and General Counsel.
The Senior Product Counsel will play a central role in innovative ETF launches and ongoing regulatory support, and serve as a legal operator on strategic business initiatives.
Primary Responsibilities
ETF Launches & Product Management
Lead the legal workstreams for complex ETF launches and product enhancements, from concept through effectiveness.
Draft, review, and manage Form N-1A preparation, related registration filings, SEC correspondence, and regulatory strategy.
Advise internal teams (product, portfolio management, operations) on ETF structuring, investment strategies, derivatives usage, and disclosure issues.
Coordinate with internal stakeholders and external counsel on SEC filings and regulatory questions.
Strategic Initiatives & New Business Lines
Act as the legal lead on strategic initiatives like new product verticals, new entity structures, and adjacent business lines.
Advise on regulatory frameworks, risk considerations, and operational implications for new ventures.
Develop scalable legal processes, documentation, and best-practice frameworks to support expansion.
Partner cross-functionally (product, compliance, operations, etc.) to operationalize new initiatives.
Ongoing Fund Regulatory & Disclosure Governance
Oversee continuous maintenance of fund registration statements, prospectuses, and disclosure documents for assigned ETFs.
Manage the annual 15(c) response and annual fund update process.
Manage the preparation and review of shareholder reports and Form N-CSRs.
Provide guidance on regulatory developments affecting ETFs (e.g., rulemaking, derivatives rule compliance, valuation, liquidity).
Manage SEC comments and routine regulatory inquiries for assigned ETFs
Prepare or review board materials, resolutions, regulatory memoranda, and governance documentation.
General & Transactional Support
Review and negotiate key service provider, vendor, and fund-related agreements (e.g., custodian, administrator, index providers).
Provide support on complex cross-border regulatory questions escalated from the International Product Counsel and assist in reviewing global distribution frameworks.
Support regulatory inquiries, examinations, and internal legal projects.
Support corporate legal matters, including IP (licensing, trademark inquiries) , and escalated immigration matters.
Required Skills & Experience
Education & Licensure: J.D. from an accredited law school; Admission to the New York Bar or eligibility for NY in-house registration
Experience: 8–15 years of legal experience in the 1940 Act is required (in-house experience preferred). Experience with ETFs, large-scale project management, registered fund launches, and ongoing maintenance is highly preferred.
Capabilities:
Deep understanding of a registered investment adviser’s operational workflows.
Must be a strategic thinker with a high degree of ownership, organizational excellence, and the proven ability to manage multiple high-stakes workstreams in a fast-paced environment.
Strong drafting, analytical, and issue-spotting skills , with the ability to distill complex regulatory concepts into clear, actionable business guidance.
Our Offering
Global X offers a competitive salary and benefits package and a hybrid schedule, with three days a week in our New York City office. The salary range for this role is $225,000 - $275,000, with a discretionary bonus.
