Senior Social Media & Platform Editor, WSJ. Magazine & Style News in New York, NY

WSJ. Magazine and The Wall Street Journal’s Style section are seeking a dynamic and experienced Platform Editor to lead all things social media: shaping, amplifying and growing WSJ. Magazine’s identity holistically across platforms.

The ideal candidate is a self-starting storyteller with a talent for concepting and creating memorable, shareable and lively content. They will be responsible for the soup-to-nuts oversight of all our social channels, working closely with our design, editorial and video teams to ensure our work is reaching new and existing audiences in fresh ways and formats. They will thrive in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment, and be ready to push a strong brand forward with infectious energy and enthusiasm.   

WSJ. Magazine sets the bar in defining luxury style, providing best-in-class fashion editorial and muscular feature journalism to an affluent global readership. The ideal candidate will be able to tap into that audience: brimming with ideas for new social ventures and excited about honing a tonal and visual identity, one consistent with the strong reporting, sharp wit and good taste that the Style News and WSJ. Magazine teams offer. They will also be comfortable hosting on camera, and distilling reporting into digestible bites for potential new audiences.

This is a full-time position based in our New York office and reporting to the Platforms Director of WSJ. Magazine. 

YOU WILL:

  • Lead and manage the magazine’s social media presence across a variety of platforms.

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the magazine’s existing social media accounts. 

  • Develop, film, edit and execute social-only video franchises to bring in new audiences,

  • Work with the Design team to translate our stories to social platforms. 

  • When applicable, represent the magazine on-the-ground at events on our beat to capture the worlds we cover. 

  • Identify opportunities to thoughtfully evolve or refresh existing strategy, particularly around emerging platforms and franchises. 

  • Bring energy and creative flair to growing the digital visual language of the overall WSJ. Magazine brand.  

  • Hone the WSJ. Magazine voice across social platforms.  

  • Embody the coverage area’s mission to simultaneously inform and entertain. 

  • Analyze audience data to grow our reach across platforms and develop a plan for systematically doing so. 

  • Ensure the top-tier execution and ethical standards of WSJ. Magazine and the wider Wall Street Journal are consistently met: that work is of impeccable quality across all platforms, and that The Journal’s codes of conduct and overall Standards & Ethics rules are scrupulously met. 

YOU HAVE:

  • 3-5 years experience running social media strategy for a brand or publisher. 

  • A sharp sense of what our digital audiences are talking about and how to connect with them. 

  • Photo and video editing chops and a back-of-the-hand knowledge of industry tools like PhotoShop, Final Cut Pro, After Effects and more, as well as best practices across platforms. Experience as a video or multimedia producer preferred but not required. 

  • An outgoing personality and a sharp wit that will energize videos filmed everywhere from our offices to the Met Gala red carpet. 

  • Sound editorial judgment and a clear understanding of WSJ’s publishing standards.

  • A deep familiarity with social-media publishing and analytics tools.

  • Experience managing a budget preferred but not required.

Pay Range: $105,000 - $125,000
