About Warp

Warp is building self-driving employee management. Payroll, tax compliance across thousands of jurisdictions, benefits, IT, and HRIS that runs autonomously so companies never have to think about back-office operations again.
We process hundreds of millions in payments across 1,000+ companies. Revenue has grown 5x+ YoY for two years. We're a team of ~40 in NYC in Flatiron, scaling fast, and expecting to be 100 people by end of year.
The incumbents (ADP, Paylocity, Paychex) built their businesses by profiting from complexity. Even the modern players are bolting chatbots onto legacy systems. Warp is built from day one for AI to be the primary operator, not a feature. Every advance in LLM capability widens our lead.
We hire people who ship constantly, own outcomes, and care about craft. We're in the office five days a week because speed and proximity are a competitive advantage at this stage. If you want to build something that automates an entire category of core work, not just another point solution, this is the place.
Backed by $25M+ from Ashton Kutcher/Sound Ventures, Y Combinator, founders of Dropbox, Replit, SV Angel, and Homebrew Capital. Built by an obsessive team from MIT, Ramp, Brex, Google, Dropbox, Apple, and more.

About the Role

As a Senior Software Engineer focused on Payments at Warp, you'll build and own the financial infrastructure that powers Warp. Core ledgering, US and global payment rails, payroll engine, earnings calculations, tax engines, and the compliance layer around all of it. This is deeply technical work with real financial stakes. Very few engineers get to work on problems like this, at this scale, this early. You'll work directly with the CTO and have outsized influence over how we architect one of the most critical systems in the company.

What You'll Do
  • Own and scale Warp's core ledgering and payments infrastructure

  • Develop and own the payroll engine, earnings engine, and tax engine

  • Architect US and global payment rails for domestic and international payroll

  • Build fault-tolerant, auditable financial systems designed to process billions of dollars

  • Define the payments architecture roadmap in collaboration with the CTO

You'll Be Good for This Role If You
  • Have deep experience in payments, fintech, or financial infrastructure

  • Care intensely about correctness, auditability, and reliability

  • Have owned payments or fintech infrastructure at a high-growth startup

  • Understand the unique challenges of financial systems: idempotency, reconciliation, compliance

  • Love hard infrastructure problems with direct business impact

What You Need
  • 5+ years of software engineering experience

  • 2+ years working on payments, fintech, or core financial infrastructure

  • Experience building highly reliable, fault-tolerant distributed systems

  • Strong expertise in strongly typed languages

  • Deep understanding of financial systems and their unique constraints

  • Willingness to work from our NYC office five days a week
