Job Description

Join the legal frontline and advocate for both the insured and the Company in high-impact, fast-moving litigation. As a Senior Trial Attorney, you will play a key role handling Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist (UM/UIM) matters, along with Bodily Injury (BI) litigation, from early issue identification through arbitration and court proceedings.
This role is ideal for a litigator who thrives on research, writing, and framed-issue hearings, and can manage time-sensitive filings with precision. You’ll collaborate closely with claims partners, provide strategic legal guidance, and cross-train across related practice areas while maintaining a manageable but intellectually demanding caseload.

Key Responsibilities

  • Represent insured individuals and the company in Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist arbitrations and litigation, as well as Bodily Injury (BI) and related insurance defense matters.
  • Handle time-sensitive Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist petitions and responsive pleadings, including filings required within statutory deadlines following notice.
  • Prepare for and conduct arbitrations, framed-issue hearings, examinations under oath (EUOs), mediations, and depositions.
  • Draft and present pre- and post-hearing motions, petitions, and legal memoranda with a strong emphasis on research and written advocacy.
  • Appear in court as needed, including conferences and hearings.
  • Collaborate with claims professionals, including participating in claim discussions and strategy calls related to Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist matters.
  • Manage a caseload that includes Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist matters and Bodily injury cases, with significant front-end legal analysis and preparation.
  • Assist colleagues with coverage or calendar needs in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
  • Stay current on relevant laws, regulations, and case law impacting Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist and Bodily Injury litigation; proactively advise internal partners on legal developments and risk considerations.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Active membership in good standing with the New York State Bar.

Minimum Requirements

  • 4+ years of litigation experience, with demonstrated strength in legal research, writing, and issue framing.
  • Comfort handling hearings, arbitrations, and trial-like proceedings, including framed-issue or single-issue hearings.
  • Ability to manage time-sensitive filings and statutory deadlines with accuracy and urgency.
  • Strong analytical and advocacy skills; not hesitant to appear in hearings or trial-adjacent settings.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with legal research platforms.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with attorneys, paralegals, administrative staff, and claims partners.
  • Comfortable working in a remote environment with periodic in-person court appearances throughout New York.
