Wild Card with Rachel Martin is an interview show that serves as an antidote to the cynicism and chaos of modern life. Rachel’s soulful conversations with some of the most influential and thoughtful minds of our generation reminds people of the things that matter most.

In 2025, Wild Card launched as NPR’s first-ever video podcast. Since then, Rachel’s interviews with everyone from Oprah to Michelle Obama have reached millions of views on YouTube and clips from the show regularly go viral on Instagram. NPR is looking for an experienced video editor to help Wild Card further develop its video presence and reach new audiences. 

We’re looking for a creative and organized video editor with experience booking, producing and editing longform interviews. You’ll produce, edit, and publish long- and short-form video for Wild Card. You have a strong understanding of how distribution and virality works on platforms like Spotify, YouTube and Instagram. You will support showrunners, podcast hosts, and work closely with NPR’s Visuals team. You will innovate new formats and design approaches to help Wild Card reach bigger audiences.

This is a union-represented role covered under the terms of a collective bargaining agreement with SAG-AFTRA. 

This is an NPR editorial role covered under the terms of the NPR Ethics Handbook. All editorial staff are bound by this guidance. Editorial staff are defined as staff members who play a role in shaping the journalistic or creative direction of NPR's content, including events.    

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with producers and editors on Wild Card to conceive, generate, edit and publish video podcast episodes and short-form vertical video. 
  • Collaborate with Wild Card editors on managing Instagram, YouTube and other visual platforms. 
  • Manage production schedule for multiple video editors working on weekly Wild Card video deliverables.
  • Produce, edit and publish audio deliverables for radio and other audio-only platforms
  • Direct remote and in-person Wild Card tapings
  • Pitch and book guests who have the right mix of thoughtfulness, vulnerability and humor to match Wild Card’s tone.
  • Take responsibility for video tasks, including multiple layers of coordination, logistics, creativity and sensitivity in the storytelling.
  • Work with the Wild Card and visuals teams to figure out new formats for Wild Card content that will help reach new audiences.
  • Help refine Wild Card’s presentation on major video platforms, including thumbnails, titles, landing pages, etc.
  • Excel at directing and executing visual storytelling forms such as cinematography, photography and lighting, as well as be proficient at executing motion graphics, where applicable.
  • Clearly communicate the vision, project goals, narrative scope and timeline for each production.
  • Function as a key decision maker on the shape and look of regular content and important projects.
  • Maintain NPR editorial and ethical guidelines in all production.

Qualifications
  • 5+ years video production experience, preferably with a major network or newsroom, studio or creative agency.
  • Mastery of Riverside, Descript, Premiere, and other programs related to video, photo and design, including Canva.
  • Experience producing video interviews
  • Experience with social media engagement is a plus.
  • Demonstrated commitment to increasing audience diversity.
  • Be well-versed in copyright and ethical journalism practices.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills.
  • Strong editing skills.
  • Must be able to lift video equipment weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to contribute to and carry out a comprehensive, cross-platform social strategy.
  • Ability to handle multiple and complex projects simultaneously under tight deadlines and changing priorities/conditions.
  • Proven ability to communicate clearly and to consistently work well with others and as part of a team, demonstrating at all times respect for the diverse constituencies at NPR and within the public radio system.
  • Ability and willingness to work varied shifts.
Education Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Work Location & Requirements
  • Hybrid Permitted: This is a hybrid permitted role. The employee will be required to be in the office at the Washington, DC or New York City location at least 3 days a week. The employee must also reside in DC/Maryland/Virginia or the New York City area, depending on which office location is applicable.
Job Type
  • This is a permanent full-time position.
Compensation

Salary Range: The U.S. based anticipated salary range for this opportunity is $127,500 - $140,000 plus benefits. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum salaries NPR expects to provide for new hires for the position across all US locations.

NPR Benefits: NPR offers access to comprehensive benefits for employees and dependents. Regular, full-time employees scheduled to work 30 hours or more per week are eligible to enroll in NPR’s benefits options. Benefits include access to health and wellness, paid time off, and financial well-being. Plan options include medical, dental, vision, life/ accidental death and dismemberment, long-term disability, short-term disability, and voluntary retirement savings to all eligible NPR employees.
