the job:

We’re looking for an experienced, highly creative Social + Content Strategy Manager (Contract) to cover a maternity leave for approximately four months. This person will step directly into an essential role on the social team, helping lead social strategy, managing day-to-day content production, overseeing creators, and supporting community-driven storytelling.

This contractor must be comfortable producing social content themselves (coordinating shoots, editing, writing captions, briefing creators, etc.) and able to keep the social engine running smoothly in partnership with the Director.

contract length: ~4 months

location: hybrid (must be based in NYC + have the right to work in the US)

what you'll do:

Strategy & Planning

  • Own prep for monthly and campaign brainstorms, including stakeholder coordination, gathering inspiration, and synthesizing takeaways.
  • Collaborate with the Director to conceptualize and execute social initiatives supporting brand priorities, launches, retailer needs, and community storytelling.
  • Help streamline cross-functional communication so key information flows efficiently to the social team.
  • Track industry trends and emerging platforms; identify new opportunities for the brand.
  • Continuously plug into audience insights and platform trends to shape ideas.

Content Production & Social Execution

  • Produce social content end-to-end: ideate, brief to partners, write copy, and prepare posts across platforms.
  • Architect and manage the social calendar, ensuring campaigns and evergreen content ladder up to strategy.
  • Oversee content briefs and smaller-scale shoots; organize assets and ensure timely delivery.
  • Write or refine copy for social posts as needed.
  • Partner closely with Creative and Brand teams to translate marketing messages into thumb-stopping social content.
  • Manage creator relationships including vetting, outreach, negotiations, briefing, and content feedback.

Community & Audience Engagement

  • Manage the Community Coordinator to monitor conversations, identify themes, and ensure responses are on-brand.
  • Help foster a strong community through strategic content that is reactive, participatory, and audience-first.
  • Own the social feedback loop: capture and synthesize insights from the community weekly; share actionable takeaways with cross-functional teams (product, education, creative, marketing).

Team Collaboration

  • Provide guidance and support to junior team members as needed to ensure smooth execution.
  • Offer clarity, feedback, and direction around content priorities and platform best practices.
  • Help maintain an organized, collaborative workflow within the social team.

Reporting & Insights

  • Ensure KPIs continue to be met throughout the coverage period.
  • Lead weekly reporting: surface insights, relevance opportunities, and recommendations to optimize content performance.

must haves:

  • A seasoned social media/content marketer with 3–6+ years experience, ideally within beauty, lifestyle, or consumer brands.
  • Able to both strategize and execute, comfortable jumping in to produce, edit, and post content.
  • Deeply knowledgeable about social platforms, creator ecosystems, and content trends.
  • A strong creative thinker with excellent instincts for brand voice, storytelling, and visual execution.
  • Organized, proactive, and able to balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • A collaborative partner who can move work forward with clarity and confidence, even within a short-term contract structure.
