We are a dream team obsessed with the uncomfortable excitement of discovering what happens when you merge creativity, intuition and cutting-edge technology. Come be a part of what’s next.

We launched a new ad-supported tier in November 2022 to offer our members more choice in how they consume their content. Our new tier allows us to attract new members at a lower price point while also creating a compelling path for advertisers to reach deeply engaged audiences.

Our Team

The Ads Signals & Targeting team for Netflix Ads is responsible for improving ad supply eligibility through advancements in audience and contextual targeting, which is essential for ensuring a great member experience where members see the right ad at the right time. This involves managing the fundamental Signals and Target systems, and continuously evolving these systems to support outcome-based optimizations and probabilistic modeled audience targeting.

The Role

As a Software Engineer on the Ads Signals & Targeting team, you will be instrumental in developing and enhancing our ads targeting and audience capabilities, which leverage various signal sources to enable precise ad delivery and maximize advertiser value. In this dynamic and innovative environment, your contributions will have a significant impact on how we protect member data and privacy. You will collaborate with a team of talented professionals who are deeply passionate about ads technology and privacy, fostering a culture that values creativity, diversity, and continuous learning.

Skills & experience we’re seeking:

  • 8+ years of experience building distributed systems, core backend infrastructure, or high-throughput platforms.
  • Proven leadership at an L6/Staff/Principal level, collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders across product, engineering, design, and business, and delivering complex features with critical business impact.
  • Experience simplifying or consolidating privacy systems across teams, including sunsetting solutions that no longer serve the business.
  • Professional experience in designing and building user and contextual signals and audience targeting features for ad platforms.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Python, C++, or similar, with a strong grasp of software development principles and design patterns.
  • Experience in developing distributed cloud-based applications and proficiency in modern programming languages, preferably object-oriented.
  • Proven experience in handling data at extremely large volumes with big data tools like Spark, and building high throughput low latency distributed systems that utilized the big data.
  • Track record of mentoring engineers within and beyond your immediate team and influencing technical roadmaps across adjacent teams through clear articulation of business impact.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and effectively manage multiple priorities.
  • Knowledge of the ad tech and advertising landscape, including programmatic advertising and digital marketing trends.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

Nice to haves:

  • Strong understanding of data privacy, governance, and security concepts, including Privacy by Design principles.
  • Experience with ads targeting using machine learning models.
  • Experience working in the CTV space and knowledge of its unique constraints.
