Description
At Realtor.com®, we help people discover and create their perfect home. We bring together real estate data, consumer experiences and technology to support people throughout their home journey.
Realtor.com is building a Customer Data Platform on Twilio Segment so we can recognize consumers across web, apps, email and push and give each person an experience that fits where they are in their home search. It’s heading to production now, and we need engineers to help build and run it.
We’re hiring a Software Engineer for the CDP’s serving path: the profile store and the Personalization Activation Subgraph, a federated GraphQL service between the CDP and our site and apps. Personalization has to be fast and safe. If anything is slow or down, users and search engines just get the standard page.
The work is backend-first but goes all the way to the screen. You’ll write resolvers and profile store code, wire the subgraph into our server-rendered pages and CMS, and build the components that render each treatment, its fallback and its exposure events. Over time you’ll own treatments end to end, from the CDP trait to the pixel on the page. You’ll start alongside a senior engineer and our vendor, then help bring the platform in-house with data engineering, Identity & Authentication, Web Platform, Mobile, Notifications and MarTech.
Top Reasons to Apply:
Help build a new platform with real executive sponsorship.
Work on a system that sits at the meeting point of identity, data and the consumer experience on one of the largest real estate sites in the U.S.
Grow quickly with senior engineers on work that spans backend, front end and data
What You’ll Do:
Build and maintain an Apollo Federation v2 subgraph that serves profile traits, audiences and personalization decisions to web, CMS and native clients, using our schema conventions, resilience patterns (timeouts, circuit breakers, kill switches, flags) and router-provided identity so a CDP failure never breaks a page.
Help build the RDC-owned profile store and its refresh pipeline (event consumers, backfills, rate-limited batching) to serve traits in single-digit milliseconds, partnering with Web Platform on caching.
Bring personalization into server-rendered React pages, islands and CMS experiments with Apollo Client components that load without flicker, never block the page and protect Core Web Vitals, with clean exposure and engagement tracking through Segment.
Help build the Kafka integration that sends identity events to the CDP without PII leakage, and enforce consent and opt-out so suppressed users are never personalized or tracked.
Ship through EKS, Argo CD, Helm and CircleCI, join on-call once ramped up, build the dashboards, alerts and runbooks for your services, and turn product requirements into flagged, A/B-tested features with short design docs.
What You’ll Bring:
3+ years of software engineering experience, including building and supporting services in production.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
Experience shipping user-facing features across both a backend service and the UI.
Solid TypeScript/Node.js for backend work (our subgraphs are Node/TypeScript).
React and TypeScript on the front end, with some experience in server-side rendering (Next.js or similar) and a GraphQL client such as Apollo Client.
Working knowledge of GraphQL APIs: schema design, resolvers and error handling.
Familiarity with caching and key-value stores (Redis, DynamoDB or similar) and why latency matters for page rendering.
Understanding of basic resilience patterns: timeouts, retries and fallbacks.
Experience with AWS, Docker and CI/CD pipelines.
Habit of writing tests and adding logging and metrics to the code you ship.
Clear written communication and comfort asking questions and raising risks early.
Preferred
Apollo Federation v2 experience: subgraphs, entities and @key, composition checks with Rover/GraphOS.
Hands-on work with a Customer Data Platform, ideally Twilio Segment (Engage audiences, computed traits, Profile API, Destinations). mParticle, Tealium, Braze or Amperity also count.
Kafka or another event streaming system, including idempotency and ordering.
Core Web Vitals (LCP, INP, CLS) and front-end performance tuning.
Feature flag and experimentation tools (LaunchDarkly, Amplitude Experiment, Optimizely) and exposure logging.
OAuth 2.0/OIDC and JWT basics, or identity platforms like Auth0 or Okta.
Client-side analytics (Segment analytics.js, Amplitude or similar).
Kubernetes, Argo CD, Helm and Terraform.
Observability tools such as New Relic or Datadog.
Awareness of privacy requirements around PII, consent and opt-out (CCPA/CPRA).
Micro-frontend, design system or headless CMS experience.
