Job Description

Sompo has a unique opportunity for a Solutions Architect to join our IT team.

The Solution Architect is responsible for the design and governance of end-to-end technology solutions that align business objectives, architecture standards, security requirements, and operational needs. This role works across business and technology teams to translate requirements into scalable, secure, resilient, and supportable solutions.

The Solution Architect ensures that solution designs span the full delivery lifecycle, including business processes, application architecture, integration, data flows, infrastructure, security, and support model considerations. The role is critical in enabling effective decision-making, reducing delivery risk, and ensuring that implemented solutions are fit for purpose and aligned to enterprise standards.

Location: This position can be based out of our Purchase NY, Midtown NYC, Morristown NJ, Charlotte NJC, Conshohocken PA, Mt Juliet TN, or Lubbock TX office. We strive for collaboration which is why we offer a work environment where our employees thrive and develop long lasting careers.

Key Responsibilities

Solution Design and Architecture

  • Design end-to-end technology solutions across insurance, reinsurance and corporate business applications, integrations, data, infrastructure, and security domains.
  • Translate business goals, functional requirements, and non-functional requirements into solution architectures and design artifacts.
  • Develop high-level and detailed solution designs that clearly define system components, interfaces, dependencies, and operational considerations.
  • Ensure that solution designs address scalability, resilience, performance, maintainability, and supportability.
  • Define solution options, evaluate trade-offs, and recommend preferred approaches based on business value, technical fit, cost, and risk.
  • Provide project approach to project team to develop project plans and schedules. Support project planning process
  • Ensure alignment between solution architecture and enterprise architecture standards, patterns, and roadmaps.

Business and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Partner with business stakeholders, product owners, project managers, engineers, and vendors to understand objectives and shape appropriate solution approaches.
  • Facilitate architecture and design discussions across multiple teams to achieve alignment on scope, approach, and implementation decisions.
  • Support project initiation and planning by providing architectural input into estimates, dependencies, risks, and delivery considerations.

End-to-End Delivery Support

  • Provide architectural leadership throughout the project lifecycle from ideation through implementation and transition to support.
  • Work closely with development, infrastructure, security, QA, and operations teams to ensure designs are understood and executed effectively.
  • Review solution implementation to confirm adherence to approved architecture and design principles.

Governance, Risk, and Standards

  • Participate in architecture governance processes, including design reviews, approvals, and technical assurance activities.
  • Ensure solutions comply with security, regulatory, risk, and data governance requirements.
  • Identify architectural risks, issues, and dependencies and recommend mitigation plans.
  • Promote reuse of existing platforms, services, and patterns where appropriate to reduce complexity and improve consistency.
  • Contribute to architecture principles, standards, reference models, and best practices.

Documentation and Communication

  • Produce and maintain architecture documentation, including solution diagrams, design decisions, interface specifications, and transition considerations.
  • Present solution designs and recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences, including governance forums and senior stakeholders.
  • Document assumptions, constraints, and key decisions to support transparency and traceability throughout the delivery lifecycle.

Salary Range: $165,000 – $175,000. Actual compensation for this role will depend on several factors including the cost of living associated with your work location, your qualifications, skills, competencies, and relevant experience.
