A part-time program where you'll work with a Spectrum News team, contributing to meaningful projects while learning how journalism comes together in some of the nation's most influential cities. Your schedule will be organized around your semester schedule.
The Spectrum Internship Experience
You'll join one of our newsrooms for the summer, where you will build a strong understanding of reporting, producing, and other departments that are of interest to you.

  • Receive mentorship from a member of our team, who can provide one-on-one advice to help you reach your professional goals.

What you can expect in this role
As a Spectrum News intern, we have a variety of areas that you can spend the semester learning and working alongside our staff in the areas that are of interest to you.
Internship responsibilities may include
  • Pitch, research, and develop stories
  • Assist with live shows and field production
  • Learn professional editing, shooting, and writing
  • Work with reporters, producers, editors, and digital teams
  • Support daily newsroom operations
  • Gain exposure to multiple tracks, including:
  • Reporting / MMJ (Multimedia Journalist)
  • Editorial & Story Development
  • Digital & Audience Engagement
  • Production & Control Room Operations
  • Writing & Research

Required qualifications
  • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited College or University completing a bachelor's degree
  • Authorization to work in the U.S. without restrictions or need for future sponsorship

The base pay for this position generally is between
$18.00 and $21.00. The actual compensation offered will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. We comply with local wage minimums and also, certain positions are eligible for additional forms of other incentive-based compensation such as bonuses.
