JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Senior Category Analyst provides analytical and category management support to drive business performance across Generous Brands’ customers and categories. This role owns syndicated data and database management, customer scorecarding, recurring consumption and shopper reporting, and space planning. The Senior Category Analyst will also support Natural Channel and smaller accounts, gaining hands-on experience with Sales and Category Management while developing toward increased customer-facing responsibilities.



Data & Database Management

  • Manage item and product databases across Circana, SPINS and Nielsen, including new item submissions and ongoing maintenance.
  • Track competitive items and new SKUs entering the market to ensure databases remain current.
  • Communicate database updates and changes to internal teams.
  • Partner with data providers and internal stakeholders to resolve data accuracy and item setup issues.

Customer Scorecarding & Insights

  • Proactively maintain and evolve recurring reporting with growth of business across retailers, items, and competitive dynamics. 
  • Develop and distribute customer scorecards using POS data from portals including Whole Foods, Costco, Target, Kroger and other priority accounts.
  • Provide high-level commentary and insights on customer, brand and category performance.
  • Identify key drivers of trends, and communicate where further investigation may be needed within cross-functional teams. 

Consumption & Shopper Reporting

  • Develop and update weekly / monthly reporting using Circana, SPINS and Nielsen data. 
  • Analyze POS, shopper and category trends across brands, segments, sizes, pricing, promotion and distribution.
  • Communicate relevant market and shopper insights to internal teams and support customer presentations and category reviews.


Space Planning

  • Create planograms and shelf mock-ups for customer meetings, category reviews and internal presentations.
  • Utilize VisionGroup or other space planning software to develop accurate and visually compelling shelf sets.
  • Apply category and shopper insights to support assortment and merchandising recommendations.

Natural Channel & Smaller Account Support

  • Provide analytical and category management support to Natural Channel and smaller customer accounts.
  • Support Sales teams with customer reporting, category insights, assortment analysis and competitive tracking.
  • Participate in customer preparation and meetings to develop foundational customer-facing and category management experience.


 

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate data into clear, actionable insights.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
  • Knowledge of CPG, consumer and shopper fundamentals.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Experience working with syndicated data sources such as Circana, SPINS and/or Nielsen.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 2-4 years of experience in Category Management, Customer Development, Sales Analytics, Business Analytics or a related CPG function.
  • Experience working with syndicated, POS and/or consumer/shopper data.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • CPG Beverage Category Experience.
  • Experience with Circana, SPINS and Nielsen.
  • Experience managing syndicated data or product/item databases.
  • Experience with customer POS portals and scorecarding.
  • Experience with VisionGroup or other planogram/space planning software.
  • Experience supporting Natural Channel or smaller CPG accounts.
