Sompo has a unique opportunity for a Sr Claims Specialist to join our Casualty Construction Claims team.

This position primarily focuses on the execution of claim handling responsibilities for a complex primary and excess casualty portfolio with specific emphasis on Construction Defect, Job Site Bodily Injury, OCIP/CCIP and/or New York Labor Law matters. We seek a claims professional with strong construction casualty and excess insurance claims experience. The candidate must possess technical claims knowledge, legal insight, accuracy, responsiveness and display a high degree of customer service. The ability to manage a pending of significant exposure cases while providing insight and analysis on claim exposures to management and our underwriting partners is also required for success in this role.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Manage a casualty claims portfolio focused on Construction Defect, Job Site Bodily Injury, OCIP/CCIP, and New York Labor Law matters, including coverage analysis, exposure assessment, reserving, and claim resolution.

  • Communicate loss assessments and recommendations to management and underwriting teams and provide written analysis of high-exposure claims and loss trends.

  • Direct litigation strategy and oversee defense counsel to control expenses, achieve favorable outcomes, and resolve claims through negotiation and mediation.

  • Analyze loss and expense trends, support improvement initiatives, and ensure timely, accurate documentation of claim activity, correspondence, and diary management.

  • Represent the company's interests in meetings, negotiations, and mediations while collaborating with underwriters and actuaries throughout the renewal process.

  • Maintain technical expertise in casualty claims handling, provide guidance on industry developments, and consult on policy and endorsement drafting as needed.

What you’ll bring:

  • Bachelor's degree required; Juris Doctor preferred. CPCU, IIA, SCLA, or similar professional designations are a plus.

  • 7–10 years of experience in technical insurance claims or insurance defense law with expertise in Construction Defect, Job Site Bodily Injury, OCIP/CCIP, and New York Labor Law exposures.

  • Strong technical claims expertise, including coverage analysis, tender opportunities, reserving, underlying policy limit/SIR evaluation, claim file audits, and claim resolution through negotiation and mediation.

  • Proven ability to build strong partnerships with underwriting teams, support marketing efforts, manage multiple priorities, and work independently in a collaborative environment.

  • Excellent written, presentation, communication, and computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with Guidewire, Genius, and ImageRight preferred.

  • Willing to travel to attend mediations .

Salary Range: $125,000 – $175,000.  Actual compensation for this role will depend on several factors including the cost of living associated with your work location, your qualifications, skills, competencies, and relevant experience.
