Job Summary
The Clinical Informatics Analyst, Senior Lab provides specialized expertise in the design, implementation, validation, integration, and optimization of clinical information systems supporting laboratory operations. This role possesses an expert understanding of laboratory workflows and the technologies used to support laboratory services, including laboratory information systems, electronic health record functionality, instrument interfaces, order and specimen workflows, result processing, and operational reporting.

The position collaborates with laboratory, clinical, operational, technical, and information technology teams to ensure technology solutions support accurate, timely, efficient, and standardized laboratory operations. The Senior Laboratory Analyst leads complex workflow analysis, translates laboratory requirements into system and integration solutions, and serves as a subject matter expert during implementations, upgrades, optimization initiatives, go-live events, and stabilization activities.

Essential Functions

Patient & Customer Impact

  • Supports safe, effective, and efficient patient care by optimizing laboratory information systems, workflows, and technology solutions.
  • Partners with laboratory, clinical, operational, and technology stakeholders to improve the accuracy, timeliness, and usability of laboratory information throughout the continuum of care.
  • Evaluates laboratory workflow and technology needs to recommend solutions that enhance patient safety, quality outcomes, and user experience.
  • Promotes standardized laboratory workflows that support consistent, reliable clinical decision-making.
  • Serves as a laboratory informatics subject matter resource to help ensure technology supports organizational and customer needs. 

Execution & Accountability

  • Independently manages assigned laboratory informatics initiatives, workstreams, and operational responsibilities with limited oversight.
  • Leads detailed laboratory workflow analysis, process mapping, requirements gathering, and gap assessment activities.
  • Designs, coordinates, and executes testing, validation, and quality assurance activities for laboratory system enhancements, implementations, upgrades, and integrations.
  • Supports go-live readiness, implementation, stabilization, and optimization activities for laboratory technologies.
  • Troubleshoots complex workflow, application, and integration issues and works collaboratively toward sustainable solutions.
  • Maintains documentation related to requirements, workflows, testing activities, issue resolution, and optimization efforts.
  • Delivers high-quality work products while meeting project timelines, organizational standards, and operational commitments.

Collaboration & Partnership

  • Collaborates with laboratory leadership, clinicians, operational stakeholders, information technology teams, vendors, and support partners to achieve shared goals.
  • Serves as a liaison between laboratory operations and technology teams to ensure business needs are effectively translated into system solutions.
  • Facilitates discussions regarding workflow design, testing outcomes, implementation readiness, and operational improvements.
  • Builds productive relationships across departments and supports cross-functional problem solving.
  • Provides education, guidance, and knowledge sharing to stakeholders during implementations, upgrades, and optimization initiatives.
  • Contributes to a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous learning.

  • Continuously evaluates laboratory workflows, system functionality, and operational performance to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Leverages data, metrics, and stakeholder feedback to recommend workflow enhancements and technology optimization strategies.
  • Participates in the design, evaluation, and implementation of innovative solutions that improve efficiency, reliability, and user satisfaction.
  • Supports standardization efforts that reduce variation and promote best practices across laboratory operations.
  • Maintains awareness of industry trends, emerging technologies, informatics practices, laboratory information systems, and operational advancements.
  • Encourages adoption of improved workflows, technology capabilities, and evidence-based practices.

  • Applies organizational policies, regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and best practices to laboratory informatics activities.
  • Promotes data integrity, patient safety, privacy, security, and quality principles in all technology-related work.
  • Supports validation processes to ensure laboratory systems function accurately and reliably.
  • Identifies risks, escalates concerns appropriately, and participates in issue resolution efforts that support safe and compliant operations.
  • Maintains accurate documentation and follows established governance, change management, and approval processes.
  • Demonstrates professionalism, accountability, and ethical decision-making in all interactions. 

Expertise & Leadership Influence

  • Serves as a trusted laboratory informatics resource and subject matter expert for assigned applications, workflows, and operational areas.
  • Influences project outcomes and operational decisions through expertise in laboratory workflow optimization, testing, validation, and change enablement.
  • Provides consultation and guidance on laboratory technology capabilities, workflow design, laboratory information systems, instrument integration, and operational best practices.
  • Shares knowledge, lessons learned, and best practices with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Supports the development of less experienced informatics professionals through coaching, collaboration, and knowledge sharing.
  • Contributes to informatics standards, governance activities, and continuous improvement efforts that strengthen organizational capability.
  • Demonstrates the P3 expectation of independently managing complex work while serving as a trusted resource within a specialized area of expertise. 
     

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Health Informatics, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field; or the equivalent required experience
  • 5-7 years of Oracle Health Laboratory Certifications, Healthcare IT, healthcare informatics, laboratory operations, laboratory technology, or clinical experience with laboratory workflow expertise Required
  • Or Bachelor's/Master's +3 years of informatics/Oracle Health Laboratory/laboratory systems experience Required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Expert understanding of laboratory operations and technology.  
  • Strong LIS, EHR, interface, testing, validation, and workflow optimization skills.  
  • Ability to troubleshoot laboratory workflow and integration issues.  
  • Advanced understanding of clinical workflow design, optimization, and process improvement.
  • Excellent communication and facilitation abilities to lead cross‑functional discussions.
  • Ability to interpret data and present insights for decision‑making.
  • Effective project coordination with the ability to lead portions of complex initiatives.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver results independently.
  • Professionalism and adaptability in dynamic clinical settings. 

Licenses and Certifications (preferred) 

  • Oracle Health Cerner certification
  • Oracle Health Laboratory Certification  
  • Clinical Informatics or Healthcare IT Certification
