Sr. Director, Royalty and Product Finance management

At Cengage, the Sr. Director, Royalty and Product Finance operations is in charge of royalty payments and product data. They are tasked with crafting, implementing, and running the royalties and product data strategy and managing the related team. This position leads the team that sets up and maintains accurate royalty details and payments and serves as the business owner of Cengage’s royalty system. Responsibilities include approving payments and supplying audit documentation and support. They also oversee the group that updates material master (product) data throughout its lifecycle, ensuring precise and auditable details in Cengage’s systems. The director manages accurate metadata feeds to external sites and product marketing forms sent to resellers. They are responsible for controlling legal and financial risk in all royalty and product finance operations, reducing expenses, improving workflows, and encouraging scalable solutions among this team and other collaborators. The royalty and product data team reports to them within the finance organization.

What you will do here:

  • Lead and nurture the group responsible for issuing timely and accurate contributor/author payments and maintaining/updating royalty models to reflect new strategies
  • Build and scale new processes by forming a deep understanding of Cengage’s processes, systems/tools, personnel, and strategic direction
  • Define, structure, and complete improvement initiatives by developing work plans, collecting and synthesizing relevant data, leading analyses, and developing meaningful recommendations. Present these findings to executive-level leaders.
  • Lead critical analyses and special projects to resolve contributor issues
  • Coordinate all aspects of data setups across all Cengage content data systems (i.e. royalty system IPM Fadel, PIM, SAP, Fedel etc.)
  • Collaborate with business managers, finance leaders, and operations leaders to deliver timely and accurate reporting that supports business operational needs

Skills and experiences, you will need:

  • A four-year college degree in finance, accounting, business, or a related field required
  • 7+ years of professional experience, including corporate, team, and program leadership. Must have experience in a professional services organization (consulting, private equity, investment banking) and/or cross-functional leadership role (corporate finance/decision support, corporate strategy, business operations, or corporate transformation)
  • Preferred experience in SAP, PIM, Vistex
  • 3+ years of people management and development experience
  • Must work well in a matrix environment across multiple groups and levels
  • Is a self-starter, analytical, and driven to deliver outcomes; able to prioritize across multiple projects
  • Demonstrated success in data analysis, managing multi-discipline partners, driving complex projects from conception to implementation
  • Collaborative and proactive problem solving to inspire change through influence
  • Strong writing and verbal skills; able to simplify complex analysis for senior audiences

The full base pay range has been provided for this position. Individual base pay will vary based on work schedule, qualifications, experience, internal equity, and geographic location.  Sales roles often incorporate a significant incentive compensation program beyond this base pay range.

In this position,  you will be eligible to participate in the company’s discretionary incentive bonus program.  This position's bonus target amount, which is not guaranteed and is dependent on individual performance and overall company results among other factors, is provided below.  

30% Annual: Individual Target
$138,200.00 - $179,650.00 USD
