Sr. Manager, Tax Reporting & Compliance


Primary Purpose: Tapestry is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Manager, Tax Reporting & Compliance to support the Company's global income tax reporting and U.S. income tax compliance functions. Reporting to the Director, Tax Reporting & Compliance, this role will support the quarterly and annual income tax provision process under ASC 740, related SEC reporting requirements, and key aspects of the Company's U.S. federal and state income tax compliance obligations.


The ideal candidate combines strong ASC 740 tax accounting expertise with deep corporate income tax compliance experience and will partner with Tax leadership, Corporate Accounting, Treasury, Legal, Internal Audit, external auditors, and outside advisors. The role will directly manage assigned reporting and compliance workstreams and support tax examinations, transactions, planning, process improvement, and tax technology initiatives.

TAX ACCOUNTING AND PUBLIC COMPANY REPORTING

  • Serve as a lead contributor to the quarterly and annual global income tax provision process under ASC 740, including preparation and review of U.S. current and deferred tax calculations and related tax accounting analyses.
  • Review effective tax rate analyses, tax account reconciliations, return-to-provision adjustments, deferred taxes, valuation allowances, uncertain tax positions, tax reserves, and related documentation.
  • Perform and document the quarterly assessment of uncertain tax positions and related tax reserves under ASC 740, including coordination with external advisors and auditors.
  • Prepare and review income tax disclosures included in Forms 10-Q and 10-K and provide clear, timely documentation responsive to external auditor requests.
  • Contribute to forecasting income tax expense, effective tax rate, and cash tax payments.
  • Partner with Corporate Accounting to ensure tax entries, balances, and disclosures are complete, accurate, supported, and recorded in the appropriate period.
  • Conduct technical tax research and prepare tax position memoranda addressing U.S. federal, state, and international tax matters, including their impact on tax reporting, compliance, transactions, and tax reserves.

U.S. FEDERAL AND STATE INCOME TAX COMPLIANCE

  • Support the Director, Tax Reporting & Compliance in overseeing preparation and review of U.S. federal consolidated and state income and franchise tax returns, extensions, and estimated tax payments, while directly managing assigned compliance workstreams and deliverables.
  • Manage assigned compliance timelines, information requests, and deliverables, providing timely status and risk updates to the Director, Tax Reporting & Compliance.
  • Review complex book-to-tax adjustments and supporting calculations, including domestic and international tax matters affecting the U.S. federal return.
  • Coordinate and validate tax data from internal stakeholders and external service providers.
  • Monitor federal and state developments and assess their impact on filings, processes, cash taxes, and reporting.
  • Partner with external tax providers and advisors to coordinate deliverables, review work product, resolve technical issues, support audits and tax examinations, and identify process improvement opportunities.

TAX AUDITS, CONTROVERSY, CONTROLS AND GOVERNANCE

  • Support income tax examinations by managing assigned IDRs and issues, developing fact-based responses, and coordinating with the Director, Tax Reporting & Compliance and internal and external advisors.
  • Identify and escalate material tax risks, significant judgments, unresolved items, and schedule risks to the Director, Tax Reporting & Compliance and other Tax leadership on a timely basis.
  • Maintain SOX controls, process narratives, and documentation related to income tax reporting and compliance.
  • Coordinate quarterly reviews and annual audits with organized, responsive documentation.

PLANNING, TRANSACTIONS AND CROSS-FUNCTIONAL SUPPORT

  • Support tax planning, transactions, and legal entity restructurings through technical and quantitative analyses.
  • Collaborate with Treasury, Legal, FP&A, Corporate Accounting, Internal Audit, Information Technology, and business teams to incorporate tax considerations into decisions and execution plans.

PROCESS IMPROVEMENT, TECHNOLOGY AND TEAM DEVELOPMENT

  • Identify and implement improvements across income tax reporting and compliance workflows to strengthen accuracy, accountability, transparency, and scalability.
  • Advance the use of OneSource and related reporting, analytics, automation, and generative AI tools with appropriate governance.
  • Provide guidance, coaching, and technical support to tax professionals and project resources, as applicable.

The accomplished individual will possess...

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related field.
  • CPA required.
  • 8+ years of progressive corporate income tax experience, including service in a Big Four or other major public accounting firm and/or a multinational corporate tax department.
  • Deep knowledge of ASC 740 and demonstrated experience preparing or reviewing quarterly and annual income tax provisions for a public company or similarly complex multinational organization.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of U.S. federal consolidated and multi-state corporate income tax compliance, including book-to-tax adjustments, estimated payments, extensions, and return workpapers.
  • Excellent tax research, technical writing, analytical, project management, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency with corporate tax provision and compliance software

An outstanding professional will have...

  • Master's degree in Taxation, Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • Background supporting public company SEC reporting requirements.
  • Proficiency with OneSource Tax Provision and OneSource Income Tax Compliance.
  • Experience within multinational consumer, retail, apparel, luxury goods, or other complex public company environments.
  • Exposure to U.S. international tax matters, transactions, legal entity restructuring, and income tax controversy.
  • Familiarity with reporting, analytics, workflow automation, or generative AI tools in a controlled corporate environment
