About the Role:

PitchBook News seeks an experienced journalist to break news and cover major trends shaping the venture capital market. This reporter will be a lead contributor to PitchBook’s soon-to-be-launched VC newsletter.  

PitchBook News is a growing team of writers and editors who produce compelling journalism with original insights. We shine a light on fascinating people, companies and market trends, leveraging our best-in-class datasets to engage our audience. Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Report on trends and major news about venture capital deals, funds and startups, leveraging your own reporting along with PitchBook proprietary data and research
  • Deliver original analysis, scoops and other enterprise reporting on your beat
  • Serve as a lead contributor and editorial voice for PitchBook’s VC & tech newsletter, helping shape its coverage direction and execution 
  • Collaborate with PitchBook research analysts, data analysts and data visuals team to produce unique, insightful journalism
  • Build and cultivate a deep network of industry sources
  • Attend major conferences or other relevant events in person, including some travel when needed
  • Support the vision and values of the company through role modeling and encouraging desired behaviors 
  • Participate in various company initiatives and projects as requested 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 5+ years’ experience working in journalism
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship now or in the future

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working on the venture capital and/or startup beat
  • Proven ability to break news and cultivate a deep network of sources
  • Write clearly and concisely with little or no rewriting by editors 
  • Skill navigating data to find insights and tell stories with charts
  • Translating complex financial and tech topics with an engaging and authoritative voice
  • Initiative, and ability to pitch and develop your own story topics independently
  • Proven ability to juggle multiple projects amid various deadlines
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite, including in-depth knowledge of Outlook, Word, and Excel with the ability to pick up new systems and software easily

Compensation

  • Annual base salary: $100,000-$130,000
  • Target annual bonus percentage: 10%

The job conditions for this position are in a standard office setting. Employees in this position use PC and phone on an on-going basis throughout the day. Limited corporate travel may be required to remote offices or other business meetings and events.
