This Sr. Software Engineer will be responsible at the advanced level for writing code and the team's technical requirements gathering. Independently completes work following banking technology standards and contributes to the overall stability and resiliency of banking technology within the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).
Primary Responsibilities
  • Work independently and within the boundaries of the approved Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) to process, design, and develop applications to solve business needs and minimize risks to the Bank by writing clean and resilient code.
  • Design, develop, enhance, and support enterprise applications using .NET, ASP.NET Core, Angular, SQL Server, and related technologies.
  • Develop and maintain REST APIs, responsive web applications, ETL solutions, and scalable database systems that support business and technology objectives.
  • Regularly review pull requests, provide feedback, and execute on the change management of requests.
  • Author organized, clean, efficient, secure, and maintainable source code at an advanced level in one or more programming languages while applying appropriate data structures and algorithms to solve business problems.
  • Utilize source code management tools to manage and deploy applications, ensure compliance with SDLC policies, and support merge conflict resolution.
  • Develop and maintain automated unit and integration tests using tools such as xUnit, Moq, Jasmine, and Karma to ensure high-quality software delivery.
  • Independently analyze and critique technical and business requirements to ensure completeness, accuracy, and feasibility.
  • Collaborate, document, and communicate technical implementation details clearly and concisely with other teams on dependent requirements as needed.
  • Conduct code reviews, providing constructive feedback on code quality, performance, security, and maintainability.
  • Contribute to conversations with business and technical stakeholders regarding solution architecture, application design, and technology roadmaps.
  • Leverage Azure cloud services, CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and automated deployment processes to improve software delivery and operational efficiency.
  • Participate in Agile and/or SAFe delivery teams, contributing to planning, estimation, execution, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Understand and adhere to the Company's risk and regulatory standards, policies, and controls in accordance with the Company's Risk Appetite. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
  • Promote an environment that supports a culture of belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
  • Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
  • Complete other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Required
  • Associate’s degree and a minimum of 5 years’ systems analysis and/ or application development work experience or Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 3 years’ systems analysis and/ or application development work experience. In lieu of degree, a combined minimum of 7 years’ education and/or relevant work experience, including a minimum of 3 years’ systems analysis and/or application development work experience.
  • Advanced proficiency in one or more relevant programming languages.
  • Strong experience with Microsoft .NET, ASP.NET Core, C#, Angular, JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, and CSS.
  • Experience designing, developing, and supporting RESTful APIs and modern web applications.
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server, database design, optimization, and query development.
  • Experience developing ETL processes and working with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) or similar data integration technologies.
  • Experience building and executing automated unit and integration tests using xUnit, Moq, Jasmine, Karma, or comparable frameworks.
  • Experience with source control systems, build automation, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience working with Azure cloud services and modern DevOps practices.
  • Strong understanding of software development best practices, application architecture, and SDLC methodologies.
Education and Experience Preferred
  • Advanced analytical skills specific to application development.
  • Experience working in an Agile and/or SAFe environment.
  • Experience working in a collaborative team environment.

M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $97,100.00 - $161,800.00 Annual (USD). The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation.
