Position OverviewThe Registered Nurse (RN) protects, promotes, and optimizes health and abilities, prevention of illness and injury, and the alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human response and through advocacy in the care of individuals and families. The RN is responsible and accountable for compliance to all standards of practice and professional development in accordance with the New York State Nurse Practice Act, United Health Services policies, ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, Code of Ethics for Nurses, and the Bill of Patient Rights. The RN promotes a caring and healing environment for patient-centered care.

Primary Department, Division, or Unit:

Pre- and Post-Operative Care, UHS Ambulatory Surgery Center at Wilson Place

Work Shift and Schedule:

This is a per diem position, which means you will work on an as needed, agreed upon basis. Working hours will be assigned by your manager.

Compensation Range:

per hour, depending on experience

This position is not eligible for benefits.

  • Assesses, plans, delegates, coordinates, implements and evaluates nursing care in managing a group of patients, serving as a primary nurse and/or accountable nurse, when designated by unit assignment and consideration of factors related to safety, effectiveness, competency, cost and impact.

  • Educates patient and family in health promotion and disease management using available resources.

  • Utilizes a working knowledge of pharmacology and safely administers medications according to United Health Services policy.

  • Shares in responsibility for productivity and effective resources utilization including staffing, time management, supplies and services.

  • Complies with all nursing practice standards, regulatory requirements, and United Health Services policies.

  • Actively participates in and supports the Nursing Shared Governance Model by supporting the Unit Council, participating in improvement initiatives, and contributing to peer review practices.

  • Actively engages in professional development, continuing nursing education, and completing all mandatory education requirements.

  • Integrates nursing research and current evidence into practice.

  • Provides a supportive learning environment for new employees and students.

  • Will follow all United Health Services Values

  • Will perform other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience

Minimum Required:

  • A graduate of an accredited school of Nursing

Preferred:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing
  • Previous clinical nursing experience in an acute care or ambulatory setting

License/Certification

Minimum Required:

  • Current NYS RN License

Preferred:

  • Professional certification in a related nursing specialty
  • Relevant skills certification (i.e., ACLS, PALS, TNCC) as required by home unit assigned.
