About Abacum

Abacum is the leading Business Planning solution for finance teams to drive performance. By automating reporting, enabling collaboration, and simplifying planning and forecasting, we help finance teams shift from number crunching to driving strategic decisions.

Founded in 2020 by two former CFOs, we’ve grown into a global team of 100+ people across 30+ nationalities. Headquartered in New York, we have offices in Toronto and Barcelona. We’re trusted by industry leaders such as Dish Networks, Strava, BetterUp, Kajabi, JG Wentworth, Abridge, Cortex, and hundreds more.

We have raised over $100m, closing in June 2025 our $60M Series B, led by Scale Venture Partners, with the strong participation of Cathay Innovation, Y Combinator, Atomico, Creandum, and angel operators from Adyen, Zapier, and Twitch.

Our mission is ambitious and we can’t do it alone - join Abacum as we build the future of Business Planning!

This is a hard role to put in a box, which is intentional. The Strategic Initiatives Lead will report to the Chief of Staff and work on the problems that matter most to the business right now — not a fixed function. The first projects will likely sit in Growth and then move to GTM broadly speaking, but where you go next depends on what the company needs and what you're good at/eager to learn.

People who've done this well tend to come from places where the feedback loop was short and the expectations were high — early-stage startups, ex-consultants, strategy roles that bled into execution, or careers where they had to build without a playbook.

We're hiring for a specific way of thinking more than a specific background. This role requires someone with high agency and an extreme sense of ownership. If you build, test, and think from first principles, we want to talk.

What you'll own
  • Find the wedge: We already have a solid foundation and strong demand generation motion but now it’s time to scale. Your job will be to figure out which channels, which content formats, which distribution motions actually produce predictable pipeline. You run that as a structured research problem, not a campaign calendar.

  • Operate AI-natively: Automate what used to take a team. Build the infrastructure you need to build a real demand engine. Clay for enrichment, n8n for workflows, AI in the loop wherever it replaces manual work. The expectation isn't just that you know these tools, it's that you build with them and enable others to do the same.

  • Own the outcome: You will be tasked with tackling a focused problem or work stream at any given time — scoped with the Chief of Staff, owned by you end to end. The research, structuring, and execution that turns an ambiguous question into a clear recommendation or a running program.

  • Write the playbook: Your wins don't stay with you. What works becomes repeatable and the motion the rest of the team runs as well as the foundation the function is built on. When we find winning plays, scale them, hand them off to the team and start working on the next experiment.

What we're looking for
  • You're fast because you're structured, not because you're cutting corners. You can sit with ambiguity long enough to form a real point of view, then act on it decisively and with speed.

  • Strong technical and analytical skills and fluency with data, with the ability to work with metrics and data to inform strategy, pressure-test assumptions, and translate findings into clear, actionable plans

  • You're AI-pilled. You have an opinion on where each function should be leveraging AI and are eager to bring others along with you.

  • A bias to action and comfort with ambiguity. You don't wait for a brief; you proactively look for opportunities and build towards them.

Why take it

AI is changing how buyers find software faster than most demand teams are adapting. The FP&A category is growing and Abacum is at the forefront.

Most roles put you in a lane. This one doesn't. You'll have visibility into how a Series B company makes decisions, direct access to the Chief of Staff and senior leadership, and a portfolio of projects that actually ships. If you want to figure out what kind of operator you are, this is the place to do it.

Benefits

Our Values

Customer Obsession: We share the understanding that Abacum's sole purpose is to create value for customers and relentlessly deploy all creativity and energy to that end.

Audacious Ambition: We dream big and embrace discomfort. We assume risks, make on-time mistakes and learn how to methodically accomplish our goals.

Good People: We are self-reflective and praise diversity of thought. We don't justify the end with the means and know where to draw the line. We have fun every day.

Tough Love: We truly care for everyone in the team and embrace honest feedback and radical candor as ways to genuinely help each other.

Qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender perception or identity, national origin, age, marital status, protected veteran status, or disability status.
