This means challenging ideas, implementing robust controls, and enforcing guardrails to foster responsible business growth. Join us in advancing MetLife's legacy of trust through exemplary risk management practices.
The Opportunity
The Head of Investment Risk & Stress Testing and U.S. Chief Risk Officer is a combined senior executive role responsible for leading MetLife's investment risk and stress testing center of excellence within Global Risk Management (GRM) while also serving as Chief Risk Officer for the U.S. region. The role leads the establishment and application of the market and credit risk management frameworks for MetLife, drives cross functional ALM and capital management governance, and is responsible for the company's economic capital (EC) and stress testing frameworks. As U.S. CRO, the role oversees financial and non-financial risks in the U.S. business, ensuring appropriate escalation of risks and risk review of business plans and material initiatives.
This role covers significant aspects of MetLife's risk profile and requires deep subject matter expertise and the ability to drive cross-functional teams in the assessment of complex risks. The role also requires strong communication skills to translate analysis into insights that support senior management risk decisions and to manage key external relationships with regulators, rating agencies, and industry groups.
Key Responsibilities
      • Lead a high-performing risk organization with 45+ risk professionals, with clear accountability, strong governance discipline, talent development, and a culture of risk transparency, independent judgment, and practical business enablement
      • Oversee the investment risk framework, including both market and credit, ensuring that these risks are appropriately identified, measured and monitored and that supporting resources, processes, and models/technology in the investment risk organization are fit for purpose.
      • Manage market and credit risk in MetLife's over $450 billion general account, in line with the Enterprise risk appetite, by developing and maintaining appropriate policies and limits and driving governance of these risks through the Investment Risk Committee and other governance bodies, including escalations to the Enterprise Risk Committee or Board Finance and Risk Committee.
      • Oversee overall ALM governance for MetLife across all regional ALM committees and working groups. As Chair of the ALM Steering Committee, ensure that ALM initiatives and the agendas for all Regional ALM Committees address the most material risks and priority business initiatives, including the review of substantial hedging programs, new products, and reinsurance transactions. Help define the scope and drive the execution of material ALM initiatives in collaboration with MII, actuarial, finance, and regional business partners. Ensure the ALM framework, including methodologies, policies, and limits, is updated and improved as MetLife's business and risk profile evolves.
      • Own and advance economic capital and capital and liquidity stress testing capabilities and ensure that assumptions and approaches are updated in line with changes in the external environment and MetLife's risk profile.
      • Maintain MetLife's Economic Capital framework, ensuring models and assumptions are updated as needed and conducting periodic comprehensive peer/third party reviews of the framework.
      • Support the management of solvency and liquidity risk across the firm. Co-chair MetLife's Capital Management Committee ensuring that capital on an economic, statutory, and GAAP basis, as well as liquidity, is managed appropriately. Help define targets and limits for solvency and liquidity, assess the resiliency of the Enterprise and key MetLife entities, and support the development of approaches to mitigate related risks. Oversee regulatory submissions for key entities, including ORSA, and resiliency plans.
      • Ensure appropriate risk review of MetLife's growing use of reinsurance. Comprehensively assess the impact of prospective transactions. Approve related collateral guidelines and provide input on transaction terms. Monitor recapture/capital, liquidity, and ALM risks of reinsurance agreements and develop appropriate guardrails to manage those risks.
      • With the Bermuda CRO, oversee the continuing buildout and operation of a risk framework for MetLife's rapidly growing entities in Bermuda. This includes establishment of resources, models/tools, policies and procedures and governance which support the management of risks in Bermuda in a complex and highly dynamic environment.
      • As U.S. CRO, serve as strategic risk advisor to U.S. businesses, supporting sustainable growth while reinforcing independent challenge, accountability, constructive partnership, and early escalation of material risks. Ensure that non-financial risks are identified, escalated and remediated in collaboration with control partners in Operational Risk, Compliance, Legal, Audit, and other corporate functions.
      • Represent the firm credibly with U.S. regulators, rating agencies, and industry groups. Monitor emerging regulatory and capital requirements, maintain proactive external relationships, and communicate MetLife's risk posture with sound judgment and consistency.
      • Advance AI adoption within investment risk and stress testing, to drive improved efficiency and speed of risk analysis as well as new and deeper insights to support decision-making and help guide the transformation of MetLife's investments data and analytics infrastructure.

Required Qualifications
  • 20+ years of progressive experience in investment risk management, investments, insurance ALM, asset management, or related fields, with significant senior leadership experience in a complex, regulated financial services environment.
  • Deep expertise across investment risk, market risk, credit risk, ALM, liquidity risk, economic capital, stress testing, scenario analysis, portfolio analytics, and risk governance frameworks.
  • Strong insurance sector knowledge, including life insurance and annuity products, derivatives, and reinsurance structures across different solvency and regulatory regimes with a particular focus on U.S. and Bermuda reinsurance.
