Transaction Advisory - Data Analytics Senior Associate
As a Transaction Advisory - Data Analytics Senior Associate within Grant Thornton | Stax Transactions, you will deliver data-driven insights that support private equity and corporate clients across the transaction lifecycle. You will work with multidisciplinary Transaction Advisory teams on acquisitions, divestitures, transaction-related analyses, and post-acquisition value creation initiatives.
Using advanced analytics and market-leading technology, you will transform large and complex datasets into actionable business, financial, commercial, and operational insights. This role requires strong technical capabilities, including Python and Alteryx for data preparation and modeling—combined with the business acumen to interpret results, identify performance drivers, and communicate meaningful recommendations to clients.
Your day-to-day may include:
- Support multiple client engagements across the transaction lifecycle, including acquisitions, divestitures, transaction-related analyses, and post-acquisition value creation.
- Partner with engagement teams to define business questions, data requirements, and analytical approaches.
- Extract, clean, combine, validate, and analyze large and complex financial, customer, sales, pricing, profitability, and operational datasets using Python, SQL, Alteryx, Excel, and related tools.
- Analyze and model complex datasets to evaluate business performance, identify transaction risks and opportunities, and support investment and value creation decisions.
- Perform analyses involving customer segmentation, retention, customer lifetime value, pricing, discounting, profitability, market forecasting, and location performance.
- Evaluate revenue, margin, EBITDA, customer behavior, and other key business drivers to identify meaningful trends, anomalies, and performance improvement opportunities.
- Develop dashboards, data visualizations, presentations, and executive-level recommendations that clearly communicate findings to clients and engagement teams.
- Translate complex analytical results into clear business and financial implications for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary Transaction Advisory teams to incorporate relevant financial, operational, technology, and transaction considerations into the analysis.
- Manage day-to-day client interactions, analytical workstreams, project deliverables, and deadlines.
- Identify and communicate data-quality issues, analytical limitations, and their potential effect on the conclusions.
- Mentor junior team members and contribute to the team’s technical and analytical development.
- Meeting or exceeding targeted billing hours (utilization)
- Other duties as assigned
You have the following technical skills and qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Analytics, or a related business discipline required. A degree in Statistics, Data Analytics, Information Systems, Computer Science, Mathematics, or another quantitative discipline may be considered when combined with relevant transaction advisory, value creation and professional-services experience.
- 4+ years of data analytics experience within transaction advisory, M&A advisory, or a similar professional services environment required.
- Experience analyzing complex company-level financial, customer, sales, pricing, profitability, or operational data to support transaction-related conclusions and client recommendations.
- Demonstrated understanding of transaction-related data and the ability to interpret analytical results in the context of business performance, revenue and margin drivers, investment considerations, and value creation opportunities.
- Strong proficiency in Python and Alteryx for data cleaning, structuring, analyzing, and modeling large transaction-related datasets, with the ability to interpret the results and clearly explain their business and financial implications.
- Proficiency with SQL, relational databases, Microsoft Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Experience with Tableau, Power BI, or another business intelligence and visualization platform.
- Experience supporting M&A, divestiture, transaction-related analysis, or post-acquisition value creation engagements.
- Experience performing customer, pricing, profitability, forecasting, or location analytics.
- Understanding of the M&A and private equity investment lifecycle.
- Strong business and financial acumen, with the ability to connect analytical findings to transaction objectives and value creation opportunities.
- Excellent analytical, project management, presentation, interpersonal, and client-facing communication skills.
- Ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly and concisely to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to travel as needed.
The base salary range for this position is between $121,440 and $154,836. Placement within the pay range is at Grant Thornton’s discretion, and it is based on multiple factors, including but not limited to, job-related knowledge/skills, experience, business needs, progression within the role, geographic location, and internal equity.
